The Director of Dental Services is responsible for providing clinical leadership, fostering superior quality patient care, developing dental strategic, goals and direction, and providing for the recruitment and retention of the dental staff at New Horizons Healthcare (NHH). Works cooperatively and effectively with the Dental Advisor Director, Chief Medical Officer, Behavioral Health Director, and Chief Financial Officer utilizing a balanced and collaborative approach to include the perspective of all disciplines involved in the health center’s services, ensuring the achievement of annual business and strategic goals, and objectives. This position also serves as the spearheading NHH dental ambassador to the community in coordinating initiatives, patient outreach, staff and provider recruitment etc. Coordinates the delivery of effective and efficient patient care during required clinical time in compliance with established clinical protocols.
Duties:
  • Holds direct responsibility for all dental provider staff, to include orientation, development, ensuring clinical supervision, evaluation, quality oversight, and participating in recruitment.
  • Assists in the preparation of and compliance to an operating budget for the dental department in conjunction with the CFO. In addition, the Director of Dental Services shall prepare special grant and project budgets as required to meet the goals of the corporation.
  • Responsible for review, corrections, and finalization of invoices in compliance with our billing guides and company policies
  • Develop and work with efficient billing procedures, policies, and tools, including the maintenance and updates of SOPs and manuals.
  • Responsible for overseeing the dental billing process.
  • In charge of setting and enforcing billing policies, accounts receivable, and ensuring that all billing-related tasks are completed on time and accurately.
  • Reviewing insurance claims and medical records to ensure that they are complete, accurate, and appropriate for billing.
  • Negotiating with insurance companies to ensure that claims are paid accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Providing information about services to patients so they can make informed decisions about their healthcare needs.
  • Work with the billing department to ensuring that patient accounts are collected accurately and promptly.
  • Keeping records of all transactions related to patient accounts, including insurance claims, deposits, payments received, and outstanding balances.
  • Maintaining relationships with insurance companies to ensure that all claims are processed accurately.
  • Reviewing insurance forms to identify any errors or omissions before they are processed.
  • Establishing new accounts and maintaining current accounts with insurance companies.
  • Works collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team in monitoring the performance of the EDR, and oversees updating the system, testing and implementation of new components.
  • Investigates and resolves patient grievances regarding quality of care.
  • Initiates and assists in the creation, development, Board approval and implementation of dental department policies and procedures, which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards.
  • Assists in the proposal, decision-making, development, implementation and the evaluation of new programs for the dental department.
  • Leads and maintains an effective quality improvement/quality assurance program and, when required, assists in moving to the next level.
  • Assists the appropriate staff in the solicitation, development, management and evaluation of any grants deemed necessary and useful to the function of NHH. Provides input for the HRSA reports, as necessary.
  • Provides dental/technical resources to NHH and its providers.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of marketing efforts deemed necessary by NHH.
  • Fosters and supports linkages with appropriate specialists, sub-specialists and related services.
  • Demonstrates professional interactions with internal and external customers. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals of various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Represent NHH positively to the community.
  • Prepares and submits monthly written reports on Dental Department issues, concerns, program status, initiatives and progress to the CEO and Quality Team Meetings.
  • Contact for internal and external partners and successfully builds, develops and maintains essential partnerships. Actively reviews evidence-based practice standards, dental care advances and incorporates such standards and advances into the dental practice
  • Participates in all initiatives and concerns involving patient safety, quality, infection control, risk management and patient service, especially those related to provider issues.
  • Assures a robust peer review and credentialing process, ensuring quality, safety, service and behavioral issues on the part of the provider staff are addressed fairly and in a timely fashion.
  • Oversees the process of provider on-boarding and orientation with HR.
  • Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of staff as requested.
  • Consistently demonstrates a professional demeanor and appearance. Serves as a good role model for staff.
  • Establishes rapport with public and private clinical care referral resources.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Minimum of 4 years in a management role and presenting weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end billing reports, with the ability to create, edit, and present complex data.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients and with staff at all levels and have a customer service-based approach.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, delegate and execute multiple tasks in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Successfully adapt to changing priorities and demands as needed and be able to lead a team through the same.
  • Experience with paperless prebill systems, compliance, bill aggregation tools, and dental office billing (Preferred).
  • Ability to effectively build, coach and lead a team of employees.
  • Ability to analyze processes to identify areas in need of improvement.
  • Ability to effectively implement process changes.
  • A working knowledge of the administrative practices and procedures, rules, regulations and policies that govern the rendering of responsible dental care.
  • A working knowledge of public health and preventative care guidelines in oral health care.
  • The ability to relate with warmth and compassion to patients and co-workers.
  • The ability to effectively supervise professional and non-professional employees in their clinical duties.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • The ability to be flexible as to the changing needs of the Center.
  • Ability to learn and utilize the documentation and database systems at the practice.
