JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Maintenance is responsible for managing PTI’s fleet assets and ensuring compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) rules governing the operation of commercial motor vehicles. Duties include:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Fleet Management

  • Creates, implements, and reviews a preventive repair and maintenance program for all trucks and trailers. This includes all scheduled monthly and annual maintenance and fleet repair.
  • Track warranty key dates and submit receipts to vendors for reimbursement
  • Compile work estimates for repairs following collision incidents and track reimbursements from insurance companies
  • Communicate with dispatch to schedule shop work that makes the best logistical sense.
  • Oversees the installation of HOS tracking devices and cameras
  • Evaluate fleet vendors and negotiate pricing
  • Monitor fuel consumption and Idle time
  • Other duties as assigned

DOT Compliance

  • Serves as a knowledge expert in driver and driver qualification compliance and regulatory requirements under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Develops and manages the completion of regular safety and fleet audits, preventative maintenance programs, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with all regulations.
  • Reviews pending and upcoming changes to Federal & State DOT regulations to ensure the Company is prepared for future compliance requirements.
  • Develops a program for Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and reviews and audit program.
  • Assist Safety Department with DOT/CDL incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Develops fleet on-boarding and verifies all drivers have completed appropriate driver training programs and securement related training
  • Partners with recruiting/Safety on the DOT drug and alcohol program.
  • Ensures accuracy of all transportation permits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft computer products and other comparable systems. Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be fluent with Paccar and Cummins software packages
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily job tasks to maintain high quality service to internal and external customers with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation requirements for drivers and companies is beneficial.
  • Occasional overnight travel, as required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Knowledge of regulatory agencies (DOT, FMCSA, etc.) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in fleet logistics and operations preferred.
  • Proof of driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be able to communicate
