TxDOT's Waco District is looking for a Director of Maintenance in our Waco District Headquarters. The Director of Maintenance oversees the asset preservation from heavily traveled Interstate Highway that serve our national economy and defense needs as well as statewide connectivity corridors and an extensive system of Farm to Market roadways. This Directorship is responsible for budgets, contracting strategies, weather related response efforts and more. Working with Design and Construction Teams to help prioritize the preservation and rehabilitation of the Districts road and bridge assets across 8 counties in Central Texas. Work inside the Department with Area Offices, Maintenance Sections and the Maintenance Division in Austin to manage resources to get the job done. Work with external partners such as Counties, Cities and various governmental entities with their transportation needs.

Position Description


Responsible for the maintenance of district's highways and facilities in accordance with Department standards. Reports directly to the District Engineer. Manages professional, technical and administrative employees. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

  • Develops and monitors maintenance budget.
  • Oversees the district maintenance operation and coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.
  • Recommends major maintenance and betterment programs to the Director of Transportation Planning and Development.
  • Responsible for district maintenance operations; responds as required to assist with activities for emergency situations/conditions.
  • Responsible for maintenance contracts.
  • Responsible for the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS



Experience:

  • 7 Years Transportation Engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part time equivalent)
  • 3 Years of managerial/supervisory experience.


  • Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Must have three (3) years managerial/supervisory experience.


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • TX Licensed Professional Engineer

Professional engineers licensed in another state, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license

requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of

Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
