The Position
Michael Best & Friedrich is actively seeking a Director of Market Development to focus on our North Carolina hiring and business development efforts. The focus of this position will be to develop and manage a proactive recruiting strategy to recruit top-tier talent, coordinate and carry out marketing and business development plans, and drive initiatives in support of the Firm’s strategic priorities and growth plan.

What You'll Be Doing
Business Development

  • Identify client targets and develop pursuit strategies, including strategies and tactics to promote cross-selling individually and through collaboration with North Carolina Managing Partners and Attorneys
  • Develop long-term client development plans and strategies for expanding current key clients in practice groups
  • Identify potential new areas of practice and industry growth for the group that further supports the Firm’s mission of providing innovative legal services
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the practice groups, including attorney expertise, firm experience, industry/trade group organizations, trends, and clients
  • Help drive client feedback gathering by identifying appropriate candidates for client listening, executing interviews, and ensuring all feedback is acted upon appropriately
  • Manage meaningful market, client, and competitive intelligence, research, and analysis to support the planning process and other Marketing & Business Development initiatives
  • Target business development efforts that can be cross sold throughout collaborative ecosystem

Recruiting

  • Collaborate with North Carolina Managing Partners & the Firm’s Recruiting Team to determine hiring needs, and implement a strategic recruiting plan
  • Create targeted prospect lists of potential candidates based on the southeastern recruitment needs
  • Recruitment of Attorneys and other Timekeepers that are part of Firm, Michael Best Strategies, and Michael Best Consulting in the Southeast
  • Oversee and manage a pipeline of top talent relationships and maintain contact with potential candidates that may be a future match for open positions
  • Collaborate with the Recruiting team throughout the full recruitment process of candidates
  • Collaborate with the Recruiting team to manage the annual recruitment initiatives that will align with the southeastern growth initiatives

Job Requirements:

Knowledge Base & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor preferred
  • At least eight years of business development and/or recruitment experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Advanced ability to work with all applications in MS Office Suite
  • A solid understanding of overall law firm recruiting and client relations/development
  • General knowledge of the North Carolina legal industry and market

  • Ability to learn and embrace new skills and best practices as the position evolves and Firm needs change
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information and sensitive situations with tact and discretion

  • Ability and confidence to identify and analyze issues, make decisions, and initiate actions/solutions
  • Ability to respond to unexpected challenges, including proactively developing innovative solutions to complex problems while maintaining a professional demeanor

  • Ability to maintain composure and demonstrate good judgment

  • Valid authorization to work in the U.S.

This position will be based in any of our North Carolina offices.
