JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Travel Agency Sales is responsible for the sales functions within the North American travel agency channel, to drive package and ticket sales for Universal Orlando Resort (UOR), Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) and Universal Parks & Resorts Vacation (UPRV). The primary purpose of this position is to drive UOR, USH and UPRV sales, identify new business opportunities in North America and lead, mentor and motivate assigned reports. This position demands a high profile within the travel industry community working with agency owners and C level executive leadership within host agencies and consortia. This position also demands a strong understanding of travel agency marketing and communication tactics.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direction and support to the Business Development teams responsible for managing US and Canadian Travel Agencies for UOR and USH, including Home Based, Retail and Host Agencies. Directly involved in the building and maintenance of relationships with key agency owners and C-level Consortia Executives.
  • Development of sales initiatives, marketing exposure and seeking out new revenue generating business opportunities. Includes contract negotiations on commissions, incentives and marketing plans. Pursue travel agency and consortia annual conference business at our resorts to drive engagement and exposure.
  • Provides direction and support to the team responsible for generating revenue from second tier accounts and for providing inside sales support. This team is also responsible for the budget and administrative duties of the TA team, as well as helps manage our channel’s Universal Partner Community (UPC) cases. Additionally, this team is responsible for managing and conducting the majority of our team’s on-site trainings and site inspections.
  • Collaborates with the UPRV Marketing team on all TA trade marketing initiatives, U-preferred travel agency loyalty program, promotional messaging, product positioning, and marketing plans inclusive of print and digital tactics and all TA trade marketing programs/campaigns. Leads the team’s TA facing CRM capability development and strategy. Also collaborates with GCC leadership to ensure that engagement through the Travel Agents dedicated call center team is exceeding Travel Agent expectations.
  • Work closely with Sales Integration on the Universal Partner Community initiatives as a high proportion of that community is composed of the travel agency channel. Also works with Sales Integration on continual improvement of account management automation and online training.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years in the North American travel agency market driving sales for a large volume supplier such as theme park resorts, cruise lines, tour operators, etc.
  • 7+ years in leadership role managing both field and inside sales teams.
  • 7+ years in leadership role negotiating and managing strategic marketing partnerships with leading consortia and individual agency accounts; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
