The Transcatheter Heart Valve (THV) clinical affairs organization is a multi-functional team supporting the product development lifecycle through groundbreaking clinical trial design and execution from first in man through post market surveillance, leading clinical evidence in THV worldwide.

We have an outstanding, rewarding opportunity for an exceptional Scientific Communications professional with significant experience in podium and publication activities to join the THV Clinical Affairs team as a Director, Scientific Communications. This leadership role will manage a team in the design and implementation of scientific communication activities.

This position is an onsite / hybrid role based at Edwards Lifesciences’ corporate headquarters in Irvine, California, or can be remote based role.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and lead the execution of podium and publication strategies in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., physician investigators, KOLs) to ensure maximum effectiveness in the execution of the scientific communication plan and maintenance of Edwards presence at national and international conferences while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Develop a robust talent development plan in alignment with functional growth strategies of the department. May have financial budget responsibilities.
Develop and maintain strong scientific knowledge of the current competitive landscape including the identification, summarization, and dissemination of key conference scientific sessions.
Develop processes and use metrics to assess the impact of scientific communication programs.
Collaborate with the internal stakeholders to ensure integration of current clinical data and insights into training and education curricula and that HCP scientific information needs are met.
Other incidental duties, as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum of 12 years of related experience working in clinical, research, or healthcare industry OR
Master's degree or equivalent in related field and a minimum of 10 years of related experience working in clinical, research, or healthcare industry
Demonstrated track record in people management
Ability to travel ~10-15% for conferences and/or other meetings

Preferred Qualifications:
Cardiovascular medical device or cardiology therapeutic area experience
Experience working in a regulated industry
Certification in related discipline, e.g., CMPP, AMWA, ELS, etc.
Knowledge of relevant guidelines and recommendations, e.g., ICMJE, etc.
Strong experience in the development of scientific/medical conference proceedings and manuscript publication in major scientific journals
Strong scientific acumen, for use in various circumstances, including in working with internal stakeholders and with physicians in identifying evidence gaps and opportunities
Demonstrated successful project management leadership skills

Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills including high discretion/judgment in decision making
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives
Expert understanding of scientific communication procedures while identifying applications of functional knowledge and existing methodologies to complex problems
Demonstrated ability to manage one or more teams and provide coaching and feedback, including responsibility for all employee actions including hire/fire authority and partnering with HR on all aspects of employee relations
Ability to develop and integrate metrics into the projects and operations that clearly demonstrate the value of scientific communications to the business
Strict attention to detail
Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels and proactively escalate issues to appropriate levels of management in the organization
Ability to work and excel within a fast paced, dynamic, and constantly changing work environment
Frequently interacts with internal and external management and senior-level stakeholders concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, and/or contractual clarifications
Lead briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives
Adhere to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control

Aligning our overall business objectives with performance, we offer competitive salaries, performance-based incentives, and a wide variety of benefits programs to address the diverse individual needs of our employees and their families.

The base pay range for this position is $153,000 to $218,000 (highly experienced).

The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
