Position Title: Dispatcher
Reports To: Operations Manager
Hours: Rotating
Education: High School or equivalent
Experience: 2 years or more in administrative support role.
Skills/Software: Heavy Phones, Reception/Greeting. Comfort in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook on a daily basis.
Traits: Ability to work well with others, strong communication skills (in particular, over the phone), assertive.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Previous dispatching experience or experience working in the maritime industry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties of the job are (but not limited to):
- Answer office telephone and distribute information as needed.
- Prepare daily work sheet for scheduled vessel movements.
- Phone agents to check on vessel traffic daily.
- Phone pilot office to check on vessel traffic daily.
- Dispatch jobs according to VTS (Vessel Traffic System).
- Document jobs in daily logbook and online.
- Work closely with Operations Manager and Operations Coordinator to effect timely/most advantageous use of company equipment/crews.
- Call Operations Manager or Coordinator after hours when important decisions must be made on the company's behalf that are beyond scope of standard responsibilities.
- Report any, and all, accidents/emergencies to relevant management.
- Assist with other office duties as needed.
