VDOT’s Lynchburg District is seeking a Hydraulics Engineer. Position will develop and design hydraulic models and drainage design elements of right of way and construction roadway plans. Design drainage, erosion control, and storm water management plans for VDOT roadway projects. Review and approve hydrologic and hydraulic design plans developed by consulting engineers. Provide project management assistance complying with processes, schedules, budgets, design criteria, standards and specifications. Problem solve storm water management issues for field maintenance staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated experience applying civil engineering principles related to transportation, hydraulic and roadway design; applying hydrology and hydraulics design to include peak discharge, hydraulic analysis, open channel flow, flood routing, and culvert and storm sewer hydraulics. Experience applying roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, and materials. Experience applying drainage policies and design procedures. Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering design & analysis programs. Skill in the use of CADD drafting and design packages. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Valid driver’s license. Professional Engineer License.

Preferred Qualifications
Civil engineering or related degree preferred. Knowledge of VDOT storm water drainage policies, design procedures including VDOT Drainage Manual. Experience in Erosion and Control Design and/or Storm Water Management Design. Knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications and Standards. Skill in use of Microstation and Open Roads Drainage (SUDA) software. Virginia DEQ Storm Water Management Plan Reviewer Certification.

Special Requirements
Valid operator’s license. References, work history, and DMV driving records will be verified. Selected applicant must complete a finger-print based criminal history records check.
