SUMMARY OF POSITION: To create an environment that supports individual safety and breaks the cycle of domestic violence by providing services that include crisis intervention/short term counseling/safety planning, and domestic violence education.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Conducts assessments including risk for lethality utilizing safety planning for victims of domestic violence and their families
  • Provide trauma informed emotional support to help victims understand feelings and behaviors in response to abuse and specific ways to build self-esteem and coping strategies
  • Explore clients own resources and further service options including making appropriate referrals; collaborating with other staff, addressing with client any necessary concerns (e.g. preparing temporary restraining orders, parenting issues regarding domestic violence)
  • Assist and accompany client to court for temporary restraining order and RO hearing
  • Responsible for covering both hotline and LAP line
  • Advocate with outside system regarding clients needs
  • Assist clients and their families in developing safety planning which address clients particular situations
  • Provide clients with information and referral and resources outside of the domestic violence program
  • Provide victim compensation information and assisting in filing compensation forms
  • Provide shelter coverage if needed, including any supportive services needed related to residents living there
  • Facilitate support groups as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree required;
  • Two years Advocacy and/or direct service experience working with survivors of domestic violence in a community-based setting preferred;
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) reading writing and speaking preferred;
  • Active and valid Driver's License and vehicle

Must be able to attend required training during first week of employment, which is Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
