Position Summary:
The Eastern Regional Vice President, Stores is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational guidance for West Marine’s Marine Center locations and partnering with the PRO team along the East Coast. This leader is directly accountable for building teams and strategies to achieve short and long-term performance goals across profitability and sales plans, operational KPIs, Crew Member engagement and delivering Raving Fan experiences.
The leader will, drive a culture of accountability, ownership, and bias for action, and build and develop a team of strong leaders. They will also be a key facilitator of change across the organization, engaging with cross-functional leaders to align priorities and address opportunities.
This leader is a strategic operator, with experience in developing and overseeing transformations as well as deep store, field, and operations experience in an interconnected commerce retailer.
Primary Responsibilities:
o Drives an interconnected commerce mindset into Marine Centers organization and collaborates with partners to deliver consistent Raving Fan experiences.
o Defines and executes store strategy in alignment with overall West Marine strategy and priorities. Ensure strategy translates to area and store strategies.
o Monitors and achieves area and store performance goals. Drives adjustments to strategies and tactics as needed to achieve goals.
o Ensures all Marine Centers consistently achieve or exceed sales plan, KPIs, profitability goals through effective use of short and long-term planning and expense control.
o Executes and creates standards to ensure consistency throughout all Marine Centers and strong Brand presence
o Hires, manages, and develops a diverse team of high-performing Area Directors, Performance Managers and Marine Center Managers.
o Purposefully role models and coaches the West Marine values and competencies to drives Crew Member engagement across Marine Centers and develop strategies and tactics to address opportunities and issues.
o Proactively identifies talent needs and provides development paths and succession plans to create pool of future leaders.
o Regularly and effectively communicates across all levels to support a culture of communication, accountability and transparency.
o Able to deliver a level of expertise requested by customers through effective product knowledge and other training.
o Partners closely with Real-estate to manage real-estate portfolio to achieve goals.
o Partners with Marine Pro’s and members of the community to solve customer needs and drive sales and results.
o Drives appropriate alignment and allocation of resources and investment in Store Operations organization to support physical Marine Centers and org- wide priorities and initiatives.
o Maintains collaborative partnerships and negotiates effectively with Merchandising, Marketing, Planning, Finance, Supply Chain and Human Resources and all other key business functions.
Required Education, Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree or master’s degree (Business or related field).
  • 10+ years store leadership and/or store operations experience – At least 5 years’ experience in a senior level retail role.
  • Experience leading large transformational efforts including cross functional coordination and executive stakeholder management and reporting.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a dynamic business landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, to prioritize, and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and experience working closely with senior executives and cross-functional partners to influence strategic agendas and operationalize key strategic initiatives.
  • Strong critical thinking and business curiosity, including strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, strong ability to work with data to drive insights and decisions.
  • Creates a strong, mutually supportive work environment and culture where people can do their best.
  • A humble change-agent who values teamwork, cross pollination, driving clarity and building consensus.
  • Strong customer obsession, experienced in delivering and improving the customer experiences to our customers.

  • Full P& L accountability. Proven ability to exceed sales while meeting payroll goals,

  • Ability to travel up to 75%
