The Connecticut State Department of Education's (CSDE) Division of School Health, Nutrition and Family Services, is seeking an experienced professional with an extensive professional background in supporting and engaging students and families, to ensure that students are connected with educational opportunities, for the position of Education Services Assistant.

The Role:
Under the direction of the Unit Education Manager, the Education Services Assistant will work collaboratively with colleagues in the division and with other CSDE offices to assist in supporting:
  • School-Family partnerships and engagement
  • Students experiencing homelessness and unstable and unsafe housing situations
  • Family Resource Centers’ ability to connect families with young children to early childhood services and supports
  • Performs related duties as required
Position Highlights:
  • Full-time, 35 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday schedule on first shift
  • Location: 450 Columbus Blvd in Hartford, CT

Selection Plan

These positions will be filled in accordance with contractual language, reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion and merit employment rules. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Education, assists in planning and executing a program for the improvement of education in the State: under supervision is responsible for carrying out specific technical and statistical assignments.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists in the development and operation of educational programs and services offered by the State; provides professional and technical assistance to school authorities, professional organizations, students and various community groups and individuals; may assist in the routine functioning of the bureau; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education with particular reference to the field concerned; knowledge of statistical and technical procedures; ability to prepare reports; ability to deal effectively with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

A Master’s degree in education or a closely related field and one (1) year of relevant professional experience OR in lieu thereof, an equivalent combination of experience and training as approved by the Board of Education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with an education provider or community agency working with families to access education
  • Experience working with schools to connect families with academic, behavioral, or social services
  • Experience with social and emotional supports for children and families
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

May be required to hold an appropriate educator or administrator certificate issue by the Bureau of Certification and accreditation.
