Role:

The Electronic Health Record (EHR) Trainer & Clinical Applications Specialist leads EHR trainings and provides end-user support. This individual is responsible for developing strategy and implementing programs to develop a competent end-user community at Harbor Health.

The EHR Trainer & Clinical Applications Specialist is at the forefront of new technology and tools in user assessment and training. Additionally, the EHR Trainer & Applications Specialist is responsible for the organization and maintenance of the EHR Training Program. The EHR Trainer and Clinical Applications Specialist is a training & quality assurance resource to other team members, assists with successful resolution of end-user support questions, and has in-depth understanding EHR functionality.

The EHR Trainer & Clinical Applications Specialist also assists with testing and workflow improvement initiatives, creating strategies and plans for all new content deployed. This responsibility requires the EHR Trainer & Clinical Applications Specialist to have a deep and interconnected understanding of EHR modules and downstream technologies (analytics platforms, interfaces, etc.). Given the diverse requirements of this position, the EHR Trainer & Clinical Applications Specialist must be highly adaptable and able to manage the complex demands of a training program, end-user support and varying department-level initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops or supervises all clinical, and operational based training content & modules for the EHR, including but not limited to modifications related to upgrades, expansion of functionality and review of core skills.
  • Assesses and makes targeted recommendations as new EHR content becomes available; guides the Clinical Applications Team to make specific workflow decisions to support user adoption.
  • Proactively seeks out industry trends and changes to support practice evolution at Harbor Health
  • Maintains and enhances software skills and competencies to remain current with industry standards.
  • Acts as a resource to other team members, helping with successful resolution of complex end-user support questions.
  • Responds to urgent requests during non-business hours.

  • Exhibits well-organized follow up practices for questions, concerns and issues uncovered during training or support.
  • Conducts and/or leads workflow assessments and redesign.
  • Delivers one-on-one and large-group training sessions using dynamic, creative Learning Management System (LMS) training tools, assessing skills and satisfaction of end-users.
  • Uses end-user feedback to improve overall program (managing training surveys, aggregating data quarterly for executive review).
  • Provides project oversight, coordination and management for training and workflow-related projects.
  • Works independently and ensures completion of tasks by required deadlines.
  • Maintains programmatic schedules for all EHR training sessions – including new user training & maintenance trainings.
  • Manages support tickets and attends to phone support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting
  • Masters level degree MBA, MPH, or Health Informatics preferred
  • Epic® Certification – required within 6 months of hire and EHR Provider Builder Certification from respective vendor certification program required within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum of 1 year of in-person training and/or education experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using health information technology or leading industry Electronic Health Records (I.e., Epic®, Cerner, Meditech) or ancillary clinical systems
  • 1-3 years of experience supervising staff preferred
  • Epic® / EHR Certifications from respective vendor preferred
  • Proven record of providing exceptional customer service; demonstrated ability to work with difficult and/or needy customers
  • Computer savvy with intermediate skills in Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to lead ongoing and project-specific workstreams
  • Upbeat, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Must be able to travel between Harbor sites in a timely manner as needed
  • Associate's degree in a related field with 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree
