Overview:


Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success.

The Employment Services Advisor provides employment services to students of ABCD’s English for Speakers of Other Languages program. These services help students chart and pursue an Employment Services Plan that can lead to the attainment of employment.

Duties Include:

  • Administer skills and career assessments to assigned student population, help students interpret results, and provide advice based on student needs.
  • Work with assigned student population to assist individuals in the development of an Employment Services Plan.
  • Maintain contact with student population by telephone, email, and personal appointments.
    Monitor and record student outcomes relative to educational programming, job training, and employment.
  • Support students as they seek to upskill, learn, and understand the possibilities in the labor market, the jobs of the future, and how to situate themselves for success.
  • Collaborate with Career Center staff to:

(a) ensure student enrollment as members of the Career Centers
(b) facilitate access to Career Center employment services
(c) understand the skills training programs for which clients may enroll
(d) assist in the identification of employment opportunities.

  • Input relevant client data into MOSES in an appropriate and timely manner by following all MOSES entry policies.
  • Utilize MOSES reports appropriately and timely to monitor student success.
  • Identify and build relationships with community-based and other organizations, as necessary and appropriate, that provide skills training and other employment services.
  • Identify listing of jobs with future growth potential, across both public and private sector, through information available via the Career Centers and/or independent research.
  • Systematically plan and collaborate with community partners in identifying and facilitating student participation in job fairs and other opportunities that facilitate the identification of prospective employment opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.



Job Qualifications:

  • A Minimum of High School Diploma/GED, or equivalent is required.
  • An Associate's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year experience in human services, social work, workforce development, case management, case coordination, constituent services or related field is required.
  • Experience working in Career Center a plus.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, establish appropriate boundaries with customers, and to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
  • Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred, but not required.
