The Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center (TEVC) Plant Safety Engineer is a unique position at a Greenfield site. This position will provide site safety and consultation during the site clearing, site construction, manufacturing engineering launch, and finally development of a site safety and health program. This position will report to the TEVC Risk Manager. As PTME and VOME Safety begin the process of reviewing and installing manufacturing equipment, the TEVC Plant Safety Engineer may support equipment launch using ProTag in both the Battery Assembly facility and Vehicle Assembly building. Finally, the TEVC Plant Safety Engineer will also help prepare the facility and its employees to support Job 1 activities and beyond.

The TEVC Plant Safety Engineer will have Safety and Health responsibilities for the Ford Motor Company owned Blue Oval City facilities and properties including the Battery Assembly plant, Vehicle Assembly Plant, and surrounding grounds. The TEVC Plant Safety Engineer will not have responsibilities relating to the Joint Venture, Battery Cell Manufacturing Facility or other 3rd party owned business on site unless otherwise specified.


•Must have 3 or more years of Health and Safety Experience in manufacturing or general industry

•Must have thorough knowledge of state and national OHS laws and Corporate Safety Standards

•Must have operational knowledge of corporate safety programs

•Certification or degree in OHS or related field

•Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office

•Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as a team

•Strong interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills

•Ability to guide and influence all levels

•Demonstrated conflict management skills

•Strong analytical, problem solving and organization skills

  • Support the completion of Facilities Equipment Commissioning.
  • Support and participate in onsite launch activities including ProTag at both the Battery Assembly and Vehicle Assembly Plants.
  • Support the identification, development and launch of Site specific Health and Safety training for all employees
  • Support adoption and implementation of the Ford Safety Operating System for the Ford TEVC site
  • Support the development and implementation of the Training Management System specific to Health and Safety for the TEVC site.
  • Support implementation of Maximo Job Plans specific to Health and Safety and the Safety Operating System.
  • Act as Safety Advisor (Subject Matter Expert) - Technical consultant and advisor in technical and non-technical safety topics, including national safety regulations.
  • Assist in development of an onsite Emergency Response Team including identification of appropriate equipment and required training.
  • Participate in the plant's Emergency Response Plan Process, annual drills, and facilitate Emergency Response Team meetings and ensure training is up to date.
  • Coordinate implementation and continuous improvement in the facility’s safety programs
  • Directly responsible for safety auditing and reporting
  • Drive the Safety Operating System (SOS) process of establishing/maintaining engaged and knowledgeable Elemental Champions to meet the Capability and Adherence Questions and associated requirements
  • Present the knowledge, confidence, and ability to provide "direction" when an "imminent risk of serious injury" has been identified
  • Effectively communicate and audit new initiatives, standards, regulations, significant incidents, and management directives
  • Lead and/or participate in incident investigations as required utilizing the processes outlined in FAS08-020
  • Facilitate plant's daily SOS and monthly Safety Process Review Board Meetings
  • Conduct appropriate audits and assessments as required
  • Conduct Risk Assessments for the site, including new or modified equipment
  • Liaise effectively with Statutory Authorities, Tennessee OSHA and OHS Representatives as needed
  • Conduct, facilitate or advise as necessary in Machinery and Equipment Design Reviews and/or buy-offs
  • Liaise effectively with the plant Medical and Security functions
  • Support / Actively participate with the Training Development Leader (TDL) to manage and drive completion of required safety training courses
  • Conduct presentations and/or lead safety discussions with the operating committee meetings, including the monthly Plant Safety Process Review Board Meeting
