Entrepreneurship Fellows will support the growth of entrepreneurship both on Oberlin’s campus and in the surrounding community. Fellows will work collaboratively and independently to organize entrepreneurship programs on campus, prepare for and host periodic workshops, mentor peer groups who are incubating new ideas, conduct research in the town of Oberlin and Lorain County on the opportunities for further entrepreneurial activity and community investment, and raise awareness and act as focal persons for entrepreneurship at Oberlin. The Fellows will report to the Entrepreneur-in-Residence with support from the Career Development Center (CDC) and the Center for Engaged Liberal Arts (CELA).


Responsibilities
  • Organize one to two workshops per semester focused on teaching students the basics of entrepreneurship, and supporting the development of their ideas
  • Conduct peer mentoring of groups focused on entrepreneurship. At minimum, this will be aligned with the SOAR program, junior practicum, and Spring semester entrepreneurship course
  • Work to integrate entrepreneurship into coursework across academic departments. This may include serving as a liaison for faculty and students seeking additional resources on the entrepreneurship topics
  • Conduct research on entrepreneurship opportunities in and around Oberlin. This may include interviewing local leaders, attending community meetings, and gaining a better understanding of the local economics, funding opportunities, and dynamics of Oberlin and Lorain County
  • Assist CELA and CDC staff with promoting entrepreneurship opportunities on campus, such as: designing and disseminating marketing materials, conducting research, serving as a liaison between staff and students, and other duties as assigned


Qualifications
  • Passionate about entrepreneurship, communities, and financial equity
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated reliability and responsibility
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfortable with advising peers and presenting information to groups and individuals
  • Enrolled student for the 2021-2022 academic year, and availability on campus during both semesters
  • Flexible and willing to provide ongoing feedback . Please note this is a new Fellowship being offered at Oberlin College and it is expected the role will evolve during the course of the year. There is a preference for applicants who are comfortable with change, and willing to suggest improvements to their role and the Fellowship structure throughout


Preferred Qualification:
  • Experience with Excel, Google Sheets

Expectations:
  • Participate in training with Career Development Center staff including topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and peer advising.
  • Attend weekly 1-hour meetings (timing TBD based on availability)
  • Fall semester: organize SOAR entrepreneurship workshop, and participate during 2 weekends. Peer mentoring 1-2 hours per week.
  • Spring semester: organize Junior Practicum entrepreneurship workshop, participate during 1-2 weekends. Peer mentoring 2-3 hours per week.
  • Work 5-10 hours per week within the hours of 10am-9pm Monday through Friday. Will be fewer hours during Fall semester, more during Spring semester. Work two weekends per semester.
