Job Title: Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist

Work Location: Trumbull, CT

Position Summary:

Responsible for creating, coordinating, implementing, managing and auditing environmental, health and safety programs to meet internal requirements as well as, compliance to government regulations. Maintain knowledge of current industry and regulatory trends and provides subject matter expertise to the plant in this area. Help develop long-range plans to continuously improve plant environment, health and safety.

Essential Functions:

1. Comply with the Occupational, Health and Safety policies and procedures.

2. Applies basic knowledge and understanding of EHS principles, practices, and equipment to determine if proper methods and procedures are utilized and to assure compliance with Federal, State, Local, and Industrial regulations. (i.e. pressure vessel certifications, fire extinguishers inspections, etc).

3. Support waste handling, storage and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous.

4. Performs inspections, documentation and records to comply with regulatory requirements.

5. Responds and notify any incident that may arise.

6. Participate incident and accident investigation.

7. Provide recommendation for corrective and preventive actions.

8. Support new project validation process by performing Pre-safety or Safety Evaluations.

9. Perform facility inspections in order to comply with the environmental emergency plans (i.e Emergency Response Plan and Business Contingency Plan).

10. Ensures easy access to the SDS and assists the associates in the proper management of them.

11. Conduct EHS training sessions.

12. Perform Job Hazard Analysis to more complex task.

13. Originate and close Safe work permits.

14. Monitor compliance with assigned EHS program (i.e. electrical safety, Hazard Communication).

15. Conducts and documents routine facility and work place inspections.

16. Enforce EHS requirements and recommends changes to current EHS programs.

17. Develops and implements EHS procedures and documentation.

18. Comply with the use, inspection, and maintenance of the safety equipment required, if applicable.

19. Promote and maintain a safe working area and notify any condition that she/he understands that can cause an accident.

20. Support Implementation of Infrastructure Projects.

21. Manage Safety & Emergencies issues.

22. Assess the risk of being out of business due to natural disaster, accident or not expected event.

23. Assist in other duties related to EHS program and Business Continuity Plan as required.

Position requirements:

  • At least three (3) to five (5) years in previous level and/or experience in a comparable position
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA General Industry (29FCFR 1910) and Construction (29CFR1926) Standards, ANSI, ASME, NFPA, NEC among others. and environmental programs such as: Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Department of Transportation (DOT) and Clean Water Act regulations (Storm Water Program or Pre Treatment Program).

Formal education:

  • Associate degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of computer systems.
  • Teamwork and service oriented.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter with strong leadership and change leadership skills.
  • Possess analytical and logical problem-solving abilities.
  • Comply with the company’s attendance policy.
  • Oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to prioritize, focus on and obtain business results.
  • Flexibility to perform various tasks to support the business.
