ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB has an immediate need for an entry-level Environmental Scientist for its growing Water Resources practice in South Burlington, VT. VHB’s passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments. Together, we work to improve mobility, enhance communities and economic vitality, and balance development and infrastructure needs with environmental stewardship.


Responsibilities

  • Provide field support and documentation of data for hydrogeology, natural science, and remediation projects
  • Field sampling and monitoring for investigation, compliance and remediation
  • Observe and document drilling or construction activities [soil borings, monitoring well installation, excavation, erosion prevention and sediment control (EPSC) measures]
  • Data Analysis
  • Conduct and document research at state and municipal agencies
  • Write technical reports, correspondence, notes, and memoranda
Skills and Attributes
  • Ability to work in field and office settings, lift 40 pounds, and perform field work in inclement weather and challenging conditions.
  • Experience with CAD or GIS highly preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Vermont and federal environmental regulations
  • Ability to work independently
Qualifications
  • BS in Environmental Science, Geology, Civil or Environmental engineering, or related field
  • MS in Environmental Science, Geology, Civil or Environmental engineering, or related field a plus but not required
  • 0-1 years of professional environmental consulting experience
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or willingness to earn certification
