Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position is located in Cambridge, MD, working with the 4-H Educator. Supervision is provided by the 4-H Educator and the Area Extension Director.

The 4-H Youth Development Program Assistant will work under the direction of the 4-H Educator to support the Dorchester County 4-H Educator with various programming efforts including 4-H outreach within the afterschool and in-school settings, as well as community outreach programs, and club development. This position will work within the office, schools, community events and outside locations.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
  • Graduation from High School (or GED)
EXPERIENCE:
  • Five years’ experience performing a variety of duties in support of the teaching, demonstration, and advising work of Extension agents or in community outreach, health care, research, or social services programs.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES :
  • Working knowledge in the assigned area of specialization such as food and nutrition, housing, horticulture, soil nutrient management or youth programs.
  • Skill to plan and carry out details of projects with general instruction.
  • Skill to make arithmetic calculations, analyze data and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill to establish and maintain successful working relationships.
  • Ability to lift and transport supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to operate manual and automated office equipment and personal computers.

OTHER:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferences:
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE :
  • Three years experience in performing a variety of duties such as teaching to youth, volunteer experience, managerial, administrative, or community outreach.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS , AND ABILITIES :
  • Knowledge of delivering and developing youth programming.
  • Ability to work with and lead youth and adults.
  • Flexible schedule to include weekdays, weeknights and weekends.
  • Skills and confidence in working independently and as a team.
  • Confidence and proficiency using office equipment, computers, internet, Gmail, social media platforms, Microsoft word, Microsoft PowerPoint, data management and zoom.
  • Creativity, confidence, leadership.

Additional Certifications:
  • Must possess a valid Maryland Drivers License Non-Commercial Class C or equivalent.
  • This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.

Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
  • Outreach Programs – With assistance from the 4-H Educator, develop, implement, and evaluate outreach programming to promote 4-H youth development activities to the community in Dorchester County, Maryland.
  • Outreach programming to include, but not limited to: afterschool programs, in-school enrichment, community/partner events/programs/fairs/festivals, workshops, classes, camps, special interest/short-term programming, etc.
  • Assist the 4-H Educator with program preparation such as contacting collaborators, scheduling outreach programming, gathering/assembling program/outreach materials, teaching and evaluating outreach programs, etc.
  • Assist 4-H Educator with Youth member and Volunteer recruitment and management. Club development and management.
  • General 4-H Programming – Assist 4-H Educator in planning, preparing for, and conducting county 4-H events such as Achievement Banquet, life skill development workshops, fair prep workshops, etc.
  • General Office Tasks – Social media and website management, event management, data entry, organize program materials, and other duties as assigned.


Salary & Benefits:

Physical Demands
  • The employee will lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Set-up and tear-down of displays, tables, and chairs.
  • This position requires the employee to work outdoors at certain times of the year, especially during the time of annual fair, 4-H residential or day camps and youth recreation activities.
  • This position frequently presents information through vocal and written communication to individuals of various ages, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
