POSITION GOALS
The goals of this faculty position are to teach undergraduate English composition courses and to share with other faculty members the common responsibilities for the governance of the College.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Teach a normal load of 15 contact hours per semester / 30 contact hours per academic year starting no earlier than August 25 and ending no later than June 25.
2. When conducting classes:
a. Conduct classes as scheduled by program director and dean.
b. Process and post grades as scheduled in the academic year.
c. Start class on time and conduct class for the fully scheduled time period.
d. Provide students with a written statement of course requirements and expectations that shall include the attendance and grading policy, course objectives, and a course outline.
e. Retain all credit course documentation for a period of not less than three (3) years upon the completion of the course.
f. Observe the approved Departmental Master Syllabi.
3. Maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week for consultation with students.
4. Adhere to the “Professional Code of Ethics” subscribed to between the Board of Trustees and the Faculty Association.
5. Participate in academic advisement as scheduled.
6. Participate in the academic program review of the curriculum as scheduled.
7. Participate in the Mentoring Program for Non-Tenured Faculty Members and the Partners in Learning Program for Tenured Faculty Members.
8. Attend all the monthly department and division meetings.
9. Attend meetings of the Faculty Assembly; attend College committee meetings as appointed.
10. Attend all orientation functions and commencement activities ‘as required.’
11. Comply with all safety, fire and smoking regulations.
12. Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources, including Right-to-Know and Blood Borne Pathogens.
Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric or related discipline; doctorate preferred.
2. Graduate coursework in composition theory.
3. Minimum of three years teaching experience required; community college experience preferred.
4. Training and/or experience in teaching online, college-level courses preferred.
