Position: Feline Lifesaving- Transfer Manager
Department: Feline Operations
Reports to: Director of Feline Care
Hours: 40 hours per week; full-time
Salary: $40,000-$45,000/salary; exempt
Job Purpose: The Feline Lifesaving Transfer Coordinator will report to the Director of Feline Operations and work closely with the Petco Program Manager, Feline Foster Manager, clinic staff and onsite feline staff to ensure adoptable cats
are available in all locations. The primary responsibility of this position is to increase the lifesaving capacity of KC Pet Project without compromising the welfare of the cats in our program by placing cats in locations based on appropriate behavioral criteria and by keeping each location at their capacity for care. This person will be responsible for monitoring daily intakes, adoptions, and open kennels to maintain accurate, up-to-date picture of the cats within our program and where placement opportunities are available for incoming felines.
The feline lifesaving transfer manager will be the primary contact for outside shelters and rescues seeking KC Pet Project’s assistance with feline population overflow. This person will create positive relationships with transferring partners to expand and unite our lifesaving efforts. In addition, this person will be the primary contact for staffed adoption centers (Whiskers Cat Café, Petco on 95th and Quivera, and Zona Rosa) in regards to each locations capacity for care. It is the objective of this person to support offsite adoption centers, as well as transferring partners, by providing ideas, resources, and trainings that will have long-term effects to a collaborative feline lifesaving mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understands and facilitates humane care for cats, using fear free techniques.
  • Schedule incoming medical needs with veterinary staff
  • Maintain records for Department of Agriculture, transfer agreements of transferring shelter
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of volunteers for transfer exams and paperwork
  • Provide any requested updates to transfer partners
  • Develop and expand transfer partnerships
  • Build relationships with shelters and animal control facilities in the greater KC area as well as regional transfer partners
  • Manage the flow of transfers coming in based on the capacity for care of each location, space available at offsite locations, and cats entering the program from admissions or foster care
  • Evaluate cats being requested for transfer both medically and behaviorally through videos, photos, conversations, and paper records to determine criteria is met for transfer, what follow up actions are needed by KC Pet Project, as well as what pathway to adoption each cat will take
  • Organize transfer dates, enter transfer paperwork to PetPoint, perform incoming transfer exams, and coordinate transport to adoption kennels
  • Provide resources and trainings to transfer partners to help them improve their feline lifesaving
  • Minimum requirement to visit offsite adoption centers and transferring organizations one to two times a week
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor adoption rates, length of stay, and overall welfare of transferred cats
Shared duties and responsibilities with Petco Program Manager
  • Assess daily population at offsite adoption centers as well as the main campus
  • Maintain continuity of cats moving to adoption centers and proactively work to thoughtfully fill empty kennels at those locations in a timely manner with pets that are appropriate for those locations.
  • Ensure all PetPoint notes are current on all cats moving to offsite adoption kennels: vaccination records, microchipping, health certificates, and behavior information is current and organized before transport
  • Assemble all necessary adoption paperwork and arrange transport of cats to offsite adoption centers and update their location when leaving the main campus
  • Observe notes for behavior or medical concerns noted at adoption centers and coordinate return of cats with medical or behavioral concerns to main shelter when necessary
  • Maintain an ongoing dialogue with program volunteers and KC Pet Project staff
  • Use fear free handling at all times when loading animals in transport carriers, moving through the shelter, loading in vehicles for transport, and unloading at locations.
  • Understand and adhere to Missouri and Kansas Department of Agriculture requirements for documentation and transporting of animals
  • Maintain transport vehicle in a clean and safe condition at all times and work with shelter management to ensure routine maintenance is provided as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned and work with staff from various departments and organizations
Working conditions: potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, high noise levels, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects. Able to lift up to 50lbs, long periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, animal handling, and restraint in an animal shelter.

Qualifications and educational background:
  • Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates successful animal handling, sanitation or expertise and the knowledge and skills necessary for this position
  • Willingness to drive company vehicles: must be 21 years of age or older and have an acceptable driving record to meet insurance requirements
