POSITION SUMMARY: Perform work place exam in the production area, able to perform PM inspections for the production equipment and shipping equipment as needed. Troubleshoot operational issues with the process, take corrective action to make sure the production area is operating at peak performance. Make minor repairs and adjustments to the system. Maintain the production area (stone handling to lime silos) in a clean condition at all time, if help is needed communicate this so the utility technician can help. Perform all the tasks below as well as performing any required lab tests to check for product quality. Assist the Production Team Leader with all tasks required to maintain reliability of the kilns & hydrators and all equipment associated with the process. Learn the calcination & hydrator process and process flow throughout the plant.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:
  • Perform workplace exams in all areas of production. Report any safety issues immediately. Take corrective action if able to fix the safety issue. If work order is required submit one or have Team Leader submit, with appropriate priority
  • Independently maintain a work area that is neat and orderly. Production & Hydrator area is to remain clean at all times
  • Rake cooler grates and reclaim material back to silos
  • Gather samples for the Lab to test
  • Perform inspections of areas in the kiln hydrator area and safely keep all chutes and hoppers clear. If stopping the equipment to do the work is required, do so in a safe manner
  • Perform all PM inspections during normal run times and assist maintenance with large PM duties done while equipment is down. Examples: replace hammer mill hammers, change v-belts, belt skirting, dust collector bag replacement
  • Assist maintenance in major downtime equipment repairs.
  • Perform the field/lab technician duties in the kiln and hydrator area as required
  • Understand the quality requirements of Quicklime, Sorbacal SP & SPS and be able to learn any necessary system adjustments to achieve optimum quality; communicate adjustments immediately to shift personnel
  • Good mechanical skills are needed in this position. Ability to use multitude of various small tools and medium tools
  • Safety is a top priority when working in the plant. All proper PPE and procedures must be followed at all times
  • Assume all responsibilities of the job as new needs and priorities arise
  • Train other personnel in the duties required in the kiln & hydrator area
  • Perform other duties as assigned
ATTRIBUTES:
  • Must be capable of working any shift, overtime, be on-call, or work seven days a week, if needed
  • Must be able to multi task with a strong sense of urgency to meet the customer needs
  • Must be able to work well within a team environment and take instructions from management and co-workers
  • Solid understanding of other areas of the plant to get the highest priority jobs accomplished
  • Knowledge of all plant areas is required and the ability to train personnel in these areas as well
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Must possess the basic reading and math skills
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Previous SAP knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong record of attendance reliability
  • Must know, understand and observe all department and plant safety rules and maintain a high level of housekeeping in assigned work areas
  • Must be capable of performing the essential job duties required of this job
Physical Demands include, but are not limited to:
  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels
  • Will be working at times in covered environment but mainly in a lime/mineral environment
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Lime/Mineral Particles
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting
  • Ability to occasionally lift/carry 39 Ibs
  • Ability to pull a maximum force of 70 ft/lbs
Required Experience: 1-2 years previous heavy manufacturing and/or mining experience is highly desired. Previous heavy equipment experience is a plus.
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
For this position, being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment.
