JOB TITLE: Finishing Team Lead

SUMMARY: Safe and efficient operation of Finishing Dept, which includes slitting, DR winding, and pouching, as well as related changeovers, mechanical troubleshooting, personnel, and paperwork responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the SPOT Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation’s efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
  • Collect and review shift reports from previous 24 hours of operation
  • Prepare dashboard daily for morning review
  • Maintain people schedules to ensure proper staffing and ensure shifts are balanced with crewing
  • Review production schedules to ensure next 24hrs is organized and goals are established.
  • Completes reviews and performance discussions with employees
  • Participate in and generate ideas for department continuous improvement efforts
  • Inventory all Dr. rewinds generated from previous 24 hours
  • Review location sheet for WIP rolls not located or issued properly
  • Schedule and prioritize Dr. winds by release
  • File and review job jackets for next 24 hours of production in the Finishing Dept.
  • Talk with all operators at shift change about any issues with job or machine issues
  • Troubleshoot and run all equipment within the department
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with job orders and specs
  • Provide direction to utility personnel and prioritize Finishing Dept duties. Embrace concept of shared resources and work cell design to organize the shift.
  • Check setups and review upcoming specs to be sure they’re clear and match job order
  • Embrace and implement Kanban or other inventory management system for the dept supplies: pallets, cores, slitting knives, corrugated and all packaging supplies,
  • Work with Junior Operators and Rewinders for proper cross training within the dept.
  • Work with Technical and QA for disposition of material on hold and returned material
  • Complete work orders
  • Review and record dept SPOT cards
  • Able to work various hours on short notice for special projects
  • Actively participates in safety programs and makes safety observations. Follows plant safety rules.
  • Must possess a healthy work ethic.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must take responsibility for work assigned.
  • Follow all Plant Safety Rules, GMPs, and other procedural training requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and previous experience in a Slitter Operator position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute waste, footage, pounds, impressions and production as well as to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
