Come join our awesome Minnesota Float Team as a Maintenance Assistant traveling to our senior care centers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Sleepy Eye and Rochester areas in Minnesota. You can work a minimum of 4 shifts per month or full-time hours. It's up to you!

The Minnesota Float Team is part of Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS) which serves as the Housing and Healthcare affiliate of the Volunteers of America parent organization.

About the job:
Responsible for preventative maintenance, painting and repairs inside and outside the facility to provide a safe, attractive and orderly environment for the benefit, use, enjoyment protection of residents, staff and visitors. Conducts routine tests and inspections on various facility systems and implements programs in a manner that meet the goals and objectives of the facility.

Required Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 18 years of age.
  • If operating company vehicle you must be 21 years of age and meet the MVR organization standards.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow written and oral instructions in order to identify various chemicals and cleaning agents from their labels and understand directions for use.
  • Willingness and ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Some knowledge of state building, plumbing and electrical codes and local ordinances.
  • Ability to understand technical manuals used to install and repair machinery and equipment.
  • Coordination and dexterity needed to handle tools and equipment parts.
  • Must be capable of making decisions in an emergency.
  • Attends required in-services and completes assigned on-line modules.
  • Undergo background screenings for employment purposes. This includes a criminal and drug screening.
  • Must be willing to work in facilities following precautions and testing requirements for COVID-19.

Preferred Skills:

  • Graduate of trade or vocational school, with courses in blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC equipment, refrigeration and electricity.
  • Minimum of one (1) year previous building maintenance experience desired in an assisted living or long-term care environment.

Essentials:

  • Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.
  • Assists in the maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of the facility as needed.
  • Reports supply need and major equipment malfunctions or emergencies to the Director of Environmental Services or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assists with department inventory control program.
  • Is knowledgeable of federal, state and facility’s rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
