This part-time position pays $16.20 per hour, subject to change. As a direct employee working on a government contract covered by the Service Contract Act (SCA), you will receive an hourly Health and Welfare benefit (H&W) of $4.41 per hour, subject to change, in addition to your hourly wage. H&W is to be used to offset benefits costs.
Job Summary
The Food Service Worker (Cafeteria Worker) serves as a cafeteria and/or delicatessen/bakery worker helping in the preparation, presentation and serving of specialty meats, delicacies, preserved foods, cheeses, salads, breads, and sweets to patrons. The incumbent assists in weighing, pricing and wrapping selected foods on plates, trays and in bags, prepares food displays in counter cases and other display units, greet customers as they arrive at service counter, takes special orders, and answers basic customer questions about specialty foods.
Primary Duties

  • Set up food on self-serving lines and portion food for individual servings in accordance with instructions.
  • Using prepared ingredients and following routine, repetitive steps. This worker makes hot and cold sandwiches, fruit and vegetables trays, salads & rotisserie chicken, may slice and/or mix simple ingredients.
  • Refill cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, juice dispensers, and set up dining rooms.
  • Replace glassware, dishes, and silverware. Wipe and wash tables and countertops.
  • Clean work area, utensils, and equipment; remove garbage; mop floors, walls, and tables

Additional Responsibilities

  • Must be available to work late evenings and weekends
  • Remove dirty dishes, glasses, and silverware from serving counters. Mix washing solutions and operate electric dish washing machine and/or wash dishes, glassware, pots and pans and kitchen utensils by hand.
  • Maintain in a sanitary condition equipment and work areas, utensils, and tables.
  • Perform ware-washing, and keep pot and pan areas in order prior to, during and after meals.
  • Follow correct techniques, cleaning schedules and tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor Participate in all other training required by funding source(s) and/or the Corporation such as Human Rights training.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) preferred.
  • One year food service-related experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong customer service skills required.
  • Working knowledge of food code.
  • Strong sanitation abilities and knowledge.
  • Basic computer user knowledge and ability.
