Summary:

The responsibility of the J.D. Heiskell and Company (JDHCo) Formulator is to maintain the integrity of product formulations, feed tags and mixed feed margins. Ensure that accurate formulas are in place in a timely and effective manner, so the mills can efficiently coordinate production, delivery and invoicing of each customer’s order. This role will also support the California Sales staff in their efforts to grow the value added and mixed feed business and incorporate the JDHCo Culture in that pursuit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manages the formula database for the Pixley and Guernsey, California production facility.
• Works with the CA Pricing and Formulations Manager, sales staff, nutritionists, and customers to maintain an accurate and efficient formulation process.
• Input formulas for pricing requests and work with the CA Pricing and Formulations Manager to appropriately margin and price new prospects in a timely manner.
• Creates new mixes, makes changes to existing formulas, prices current formulas monthly and prepares mixed feed formula price quotes as requested.
• Receive, put into production and give confirmation back to the consultants in a timely manner. Update pricing on each formula when a formula update occurs.
• Monitors ingredient specifications and maintains accurate nutritional specifications for all ingredients.
• Works in conjunction with the Purchasing Department and Formulation to keep contracted ingredients updated for contracted ingredient maintenance.
• Maintains and updates contract related ingredients in the system.
• Works with the Pixley and Guernsey, California production facility to create and maintain accurate feed analysis tags that satisfy all state codes and regulations. Provides exact medication instructions and ensures that feeding instructions are accurate.
• Manages feed analysis tags for all current products by ensuring the accuracy of existing tags, maintaining an inventory of current tags for all products and distributing tags as requested.
• Interpret data from each mill’s quarterly ingredient testing. Use these to maintain accurate ingredient analysis in Brill ingredients.
• Works in conjunction with the CA Pricing and Formulations Manager to maintain correct margins.
• Maintains an archive of formulas.

Qualifications:

• BS or MS in Animal Science or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ work experience related to dairy nutrition or formulations preferred.
• High level of detail, multi-tasking, and problem solving.
• Advanced Microsoft Suite skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
• Excellent verbal and written communication, human relations and organizational skills;
• Accurate typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar and data entry skills;
• Skill in providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers;
• Ability to learn and interpret formulas and product usage.
