The Freight Accounting Specialist manages the reconciliation of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable both domestically and internationally.

The Team
The Lynden Freight Accounting Team handles all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable duties for Lynden Logistics and Lynden Canada Company's contracted freight forwarding vendors. Typical vendors could include airlines, cartage providers, brokers, customs clearance, our own International Agents, and various other service providers. The team works closely with our International Operations Agents to ensure billing and payments are correct for our customers and vendors.

Work Schedule: This is an in-office position with the ability to work one day per week remote. Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this job.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities may vary depending on type of Payables or Receivables work required.

The Freight Accounting Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Create and distribute International Agent accounts receivable statements monthly.
  • Receive and process agent billed accounts payables statements monthly.
  • Review International account activity and communicate with International Agent throughout the net settlement process.
  • Confirm final totals, approvals of all monthly AR/AP for net settlement.
  • Net settle AR/AP via outgoing and incoming wire transfers.
  • Reconcile bank related activity for all wire transfers for overseas agents.
  • Monitor weekly agent aging reporting to ensure agent and Lynden are within credit terms and limits, recommending suspension of agent activity when appropriate.
  • Data entry of all payable invoices into the Lynden operating system.
  • Scan/archive AP invoices into KOFAX Imaging system.
  • Verify accuracy of charges from agents and correct shipment cost information. This may include rating of the bills based on rate agreements or working with field offices to determine correct charges.
  • Work with agents and service centers in coordinating corrections or disputes.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
High school diploma with two years' experience in AR/AP. AA degree and experience in international collections preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to communicate clearly with overseas agents, other Lynden offices, and management personnel. Ability to write complex messages. Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret communication from overseas agent and suppliers.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
The ability to understand foreign exchange rates and to convert to various foreign currencies a plus.
Possess the ability to problem solve and work independently in an office environment.
Intermediate Excel experience
10-key by touch experience required
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Oracle EBS, Cargowise, and KOFAX accounting systems experience a plus.
