Maintains complete control of furnace operation at all times. This encounters programming the furnace control panel and has the ability to read and interpret various gauges, recorder, and instrumentation on the control panel. Maintains eye control of furnace, bath level and appropriate timing to add additional charges to the furnace. Removes slag from furnace. May assist charge make-up person. Assists iron transporter in tilting furnace to ascertain correct metal weights in various ladles. Maintains chemistry desired elements in the melt as per outlined by melting supervisor. Checks furnace temperature and pours chemistry coupons. Works on weekends to center furnace linings, installs linings, or patch linings. May operate push button crane and discharge the charge make-up into the furnace. Report all equipment malfunctions to the maintenance department.
