Position Description: General Manager

The Bay Community Theatre in Suttons Bay, Michigan is seeking a General Manager to run the day-to-day operations of our successful non-profit theatre. We seek a person who is naturally friendly, organized, and community oriented. The GM must be willing to be "hands-on" while he/she leads a small staff and works closely with volunteers. The GM will be the day-to-day face of the organization.

This full-time, year-round salaried position will report to & work with the theatre’s Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all theatre operations to ensure a wonderful experience for our patrons and a positive, collaborative, and drama-free environment for our staff and volunteers.
  • Hire, train, and manage paid theatre staff (currently 3 part time). Support volunteer staff in coordination with our volunteer coordinator.
  • Manage banking, payroll, purchasing and payables consistent with agreed budgets.
  • Work effectively with all volunteer committees including programming, development, and others.
  • Provide monthly updates to the board of directors. Effectively communicate with the board about needs, risks, or opportunities for the theatre in a timely manner.
  • Manage vendors for film procurement, box office reporting, concessions, theatre supplies, and other needs.
  • Maintain the POS system for ticketing & concessions.
  • Collaborate with our outside contractor to expand social media presence on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter.
  • Manage building & equipment maintenance, including cleaning. Serve as primary contact person to address occasional issues our rental tenant in adjacent space may have.
  • Oversee & anticipate all technical needs in the theatre & the office.
  • Given our showtimes, the GM's schedule usually runs from early PM to roughly 8pm. Some of the afternoon hours can be done remotely. Some weekend time is to be expected.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven leadership experience in a customer service environment
  • Excellent writing, communication & interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills & attention to detail
  • Comfortable with technology to learn POS system and movie projection system.
  • Ability to work independently and handle tasks concurrently.
  • Prior theatre experience is not required.

The Bay Community Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer run performing arts venue that focuses on serving our community with first run, limited release and documentary films, live entertainment and community events. “The Bay” has been in operation for more than 70 years and became a community-run non-profit in late 2018. Thanks to strong community support the theatre is thriving and in sound financial condition.

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
