We're looking for:

The General Manager (GM) of Hotel Saint Cecilia directs and coordinates activities in the day-to-day operations of the hotel. This includes but is not limited to the activities of the Front Office, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Administrative departments. The GM is responsible for keeping the hotel efficient and profitable, and setting standards for employee performance and guest service.

The General Manager has the responsibility of developing and maintaining the hotel’s culture, values and reputation in the public eye, as well as with all staff, guests, vendors and partners. General Managers must promote the Bunkhouse Vision and Core Values in all actions and decisions and are accountable to the overall team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Five (5) years of experience in hospitality or service industry at executive management level
  • Hotel opening experience a plus
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively
  • Proven financial management skills
  • Experience with performance management
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of quality construction techniques and standards
  • Business Acumen
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in related or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ethical Conduct
  • Servant Leadership mindset
  • Computer Proficiency: Microsoft Office
  • Internal and external customer service expertise
  • An eye for detail and familiarity with Bunkhouse properties
  • Knowledge of hospitality market in Austin is preferred

Job Requirements:

Administrative:

  • Accountable for appropriate administration and controls involving operating and bank accounts
  • Accountable for the timely completion of any projects as requested
  • Comply with Bunkhouse purchasing and invoice procedures
  • Coordinate contract services relevant to specific area of responsibility
  • Develop a continuous five-year capital improvement plan for operations
  • Ensure that all accounting standards are adhered to
  • Implement and adhere to the Bunkhouse Standard Operating Procedures for all departments
  • Serve as the liaison between your property and the Bunkhouse VP of Operations
  • Maintain an accurate and current filing system
  • Maintain appropriate databases
  • Manage expenditures from the Annual Operating Budget and Capital Reserve Budget
  • Monitor and manage the guest billing and collection procedures including delinquency, suspension, etc.
  • Initiate, implement, understand and analyze accounting procedures to include labor forecasts, inventory procedures, financial forecasting, annual budgeting procedures, capital expenditures, payroll and month-end analysis
  • Review payroll records for appropriate personnel
  • Implement policies and procedures involving severe weather, safety and fire
  • Responsible for planning, documenting, implementing and monitoring department training programs

Communications:

  • Attend all relevant meetings
  • Communicate and interact with each employee, guest, owners, investors and Bunkhouse Management team members with courtesy, dignity and respect while maintaining a consistent professional demeanor
  • Ensure all calls are answered in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ensure follow-up to guest comments and comment card responses via telephone/email and provide follow-up documentation within five (5) business days
  • Initiate and maintain effective positive communication between guests and personnel
  • Maintain an “Open Door” communication policy for personnel and guests
  • Maintain contact with trade associates, professional organizations and industry publications for improvement of procedures and new technical advances
  • Organize and conduct staff meetings

Personnel:

  • Responsible for interviewing, selecting, training, guiding and managing personnel
  • Ensure Bunkhouse recruiting and onboarding procedures are adhered to
  • Ensure all employees are in appropriate uniform and attire for their scheduled shift
  • Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues
  • Maintain and monitor effective personnel relations in a supportive, confidential environment
  • Maintain job descriptions, postings, personnel evaluations, pertinent telephone listings and benefit communication
  • Implement labor standards and tailor job description templates to specific property
  • Develop a property-specific orientation and implement both property and corporate orientations
  • Administer and train on progressive discipline policies and procedures
  • Responsible for performance evaluations and setting annual goals for personnel.
  • With the assistance of Bunkhouse Management ensure the Bunkhouse culture is trained and practiced by all employees throughout the property.

Operations:

  • Ensure that all staff is delivering the levels of service in accordance with the Bunkhouse standard operating procedures
  • Have a thorough understanding involving the maintenance of the property
  • Maintain property exteriors and public spaces and conduct daily inspections
  • Adhere to all written mandatory policies and procedures, manuals, memos and oral instructions
  • Oversee project completion for preventative maintenance, deep cleaning and special projects, work with general contractor, ownership and architect to oversee and direct the hotel’s master plan
  • Review project in detail to ensure deliverables and cost estimates are within budget and on time, work with accounting department to manage construction account, draws and payments
  • Oversee all onsite construction to monitor progress, and submit daily or weekly construction update reports to ownership and architects and coordinate and direct construction workers and subcontractors and general contractors
  • Ensure the successful execution of all property events and festivals as needed
  • Manage expansion projects & associated budgets
  • Oversee planning and pricing of all menu’s items
  • Have a thorough understanding of services, amenities and offerings
  • Maintain accurate records and files of Bunkhouse Programs
  • Maintain current knowledge of all activities and events in the surrounding areas
  • Oversee the entire guest experience, from pre-arrival through departure
  • Promote and encourage guest name recognition at all times
  • Responsible for reviewing, understanding and following up on hotel guest needs
  • Coordinate and monitor contract services to ensure performance and productivity involving special projects and daily maintenance of grounds and guest rooms to meet guest expectations
  • Coordinate par level and stock of all inventory items
  • Coordinate the weekly work schedule of all personnel
  • Ensure safety equipment, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, etc. are inspected and in good working condition
  • Ensure that all equipment within area of responsibility is maintained in good working condition
  • Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, typical of a hotel/restaurant/office setting
  • The person in this position may have to lift/carry up to fifty (50) pounds on a daily basis; anything over fifty (50) pounds is considered a minimum two (2) person lift
  • The person having this position may have to remain stationary for one (1) hour, move about/traverse property spaces, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for up to eight (8) hours per day
