Anticipated GUIDANCE Position Aplington-Parkersburg High School

Aplington-Parkersburg Community School District is anticipating a 9-12 high school Guidance Position. The position will have a strong emphasis on social and emotional support for our students. This position could potentially be closely aligned with working with at-risk students and meeting with students during an assigned class period. Candidate must be willing to work close with students, be able to work with and communicate with staff, and the high school principal.

  Qualified candidate may also be involved with the academic scheduling, state reporting, helping prepare students for life after high school. Candidate must be a student advocate and be an excellent communicator who is a self-starter who is a doer.

  Position is open due to an anticipated retirement. Exact details of the job to be determined before interviews. The primary role of this position will be a hands-on student focus.

• 
  School counseling degree is not required but will be noted in the review of the applicants.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES: In addition to abilities needed to meet the essential duties and performance responsibilities for the position assigned:

• Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
• Ability to be proactive in identifying students who are hurting or in need. Must be a student advocate above anything else and initiate conversations with students, parents, teachers, and resources to support the needs of our students.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity in all aspects of the job.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Abilities to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including students of all ability levels, staff, parents, and community.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
