Hall Coordinators live in and supervise the dormitories, including two or three evenings each week and at least one weekend of assigned supervision per month. They are responsible for the care and well-being of residential students and for providing a safe, secure, nurturing and structured dormitory experience for all residential students. Hall Coordinators aid students in adjusting to and managing independent living and encourage and support their academic progress and personal growth

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Hall Coordinator General Responsibilities

  • Live on-campus in the Academy residential dormitory while the campus is open and operating in-person;
  • Act as guidesto the students in the dorm by “parenting” the students in social, emotional, and physical areas of their lives.
  • Serve as role model and mentor by demonstrating personal responsibility and professionalism.
  • Supervision of students on assigned floor
  • Supervision of hall prefects
  • Chaperoning student activities and events including but not limited to: day trips, overnight trips, dances, and Senior Fest
  • Support and involvement in student life and assistance with community development
  • Assist in providing transportation to appointments, airports, activities, church, etc.
  • Enforce consequences that students receive in other areas of the school program.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students in the school.
  • Know the whereabouts of the students in your care.
  • Spend time with residential students to build relationships
  • Involvement in the student life program
  • ommitment to all students and their personal growth
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life and/or the Academy Area Director

Dormitory Responsibilities

  • Establish in-dorm standards. Support and follow the intent of the rules as outlined in the Student Handbook and Academy Honor Code.
  • Planning and facilitating hall meetings on a regular basis
  • Attending weekly staff meeting(s)
  • Conflict mediation with roommates and or hall residents
  • Proctoring of evening study hall, one night each week
  • Communicate regularly with the Academy Area Director and Director of Student Life & Retention regarding student behavior, academic or social issues, maintenance needs, or other observations or concerns.
  • Help the students maintain the cleanliness of their dorm rooms and common areas.
  • Maintain the Hall Coordinator’s own living spaces, both indoors and out, in an orderly fashion
  • Encourage cleanliness in the dormitory, including the lounge, kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms, and perform frequent room checks.
  • Monitor stress levels, sleep habits, homesickness and other student concerns, spending informal time with the students.

Administrative

  • Checking-in students by 10 pm, Sunday through Thursday
  • Late night supervision of the entire residential hall at least 1 time per week
  • Collaborate with prefect in planning at least one hall activity per month and one bulletin board per quarter based on the suggested theme
  • Working at the Front Receptionist desk and assisting with back-up duty
  • Front Desk supervision in evenings and on weekends
  • Attention to sign-in/ sign-out procedures to include: Sign-in/sign-out key for Babcock kitchen: Visitors and dates sign-in /sign-out; Monitor phone and relay messages; assess emergencies and communicate with on-call and weekend duty staff
  • Assist the Academy Area Director with dorm selection, rooming assignments, roommate changes, and selection and training of dorm leaders.
  • Assist the Academy Area Director with the opening (including orientation responsibilities) and closing of the dorms at the start and end of the year and at breaks.
  • Be a visible presence in all areas of the school.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Hour Expectations

  • Work an average of 20 -25 hours per week (80- 100 per month)
  • Be available to work one, possibly two, weekends in a month
  • Unless it is your weekend off, you must notify the Academy Area Director if you do not plan on being in the building overnight
  • Availability from approximately August 1st to one week after Academy graduation. (approximatley May 30th)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working with students, ideally in a residential environment.
  • Ability to set clear expectations and boundaries and hold students accountable.
  • Caring, understanding, and patient nature.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor.
  • Maintain up to date CPR and first aid qualification.
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality must be held.
  • Valid Driver's License and clear driving record
  • Ability to Drive at night

Physical Functions:

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to travel moderate distances around campus to meet and communicate with employees, students, and other campus constituents in the performance of the essential duties and responsibilities; to work at a computer for extended periods of time; receive detailed information through auditory and oral communication; to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and to work on campus and in an office setting.
