A day in the life…

The Packer works on the end of the line and is the last person to handle the candy before it is packaged for our customers. A successful person in this role will be able to work well in a fast paced environment, be a team player, have fast hand and wrist dexterity and the flexibility to work across various areas. The key responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Pack only first quality candy
  • Requests, receives, secures, maintains, packs, and delivers product (raw and finished) per Russell Stover guidelines
  • Requires high level of manual dexterity
  • Must be able to understand specifications for each type of product as established by Russell Stover Chocolates and recognize deviations from those specifications
  • Performs clean-up activities as assigned
  • Conforms to rules
  • Control waste on the line
  • May be assigned other duties by plant management as required
  • Notify leads or supervisor if inferior candy, wrong bases, incorrect description, incomplete boxes or other pertinent questions
A TYPICAL SCHEDULE FOR THIS ROLE IS 10 HR SHIFTS MONDAY - THURSDAY. START AND END TIMES WILL VARY WITH THE EARLIEST START BEING 5:15 AM AND THE LATEST END TIME BEING 3:45 PM. DURING PEAK SEASON, OVERTIME MAY BE REQUIRED.

Basic Qualifications

18 years of age or older
Able to read and write in English
Able to lift up to 50 lbs
Able to routinely and frequently stand, stoop, bend and lift overhead during a 10 hour shift
Ability to stand on hard surfaces for the duration of a 10 hour shift

What it's like at the Russell Stover Plants

  • Safety. Your safety is important to us, so we provide protective gear. We also go through an in-depth Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training on your first day and continue to share safety tips daily
  • Surroundings. You'll be working around different machines – Schubert's, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and chocolate candy banks/steels.
  • Activity. Some activities may require standing in one place for long periods, walking around, or climbing stairs/ladders, and routinely lift 50 lbs.
  • Temperature. You will be comfortable year-round with our climate-controlled environment. Our temperatures are consistently around 63°F but could fluctuate depending on your specific role.
  • Smell. You will enjoy a variety of deliciously sweet aromas and you may end your day smelling like chocolate!
  • Dress code. Relaxed, with a few rules to follow for food safety, personal safety and in guidance with our good manufacturing practices (GMP). Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are required. Leather, imitation leather, or rubber boots or shoes must be worn in the kitchen and other areas when working around hot liquid/product or hot water.
