Schedule: May 1 - June 9, 2023, variable hours up to 40 hours per week

*option to continue employment in the summer and fall seasons

Klamath Outdoor Science School is a non-profit organization based in Klamath Falls, OR. We are currently hiring kitchen staff for our Spring 2023 Outdoor School residential programs. Programs will be held at our main camp site in Sun Pass State Forest, north of Ft. Klamath. The Head Cook will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving meals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Create daily/weekly menu
• Prepare ingredient list
• Purchase and transport food to camp
• Prepare kid-friendly breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for groups of 30 - 100 people
• Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen
• Supervise assistant cook and other kitchen staff
• Set up dining room with assistance from other staff members
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Requirements:

• At least 1 year of experience in food preparation
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work long hours while standing
• Ability to use hands in repetitive motions such as chopping, pinching, stirring, etc.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
• Reliable attendance

Working Conditions:

• Most work takes place in a small kitchen inside a heated enclosed pavilion.
• The camp facility is rustic, with some uneven terrain and limited phone service.
• Bathrooms are located in a separate building a short walking distance from the pavilion.
• 30 minute break for every 6 hours of work, with additional rest breaks as needed.

Additional Requirements:

• Must possess Oregon food handlers license
• Ability to pass a background check
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
• First Aid/CPR certification desired, but not required

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $20.00 per hour
