We are looking for a seasoned engineer to own the functional safety efforts for our driverless vehicle platform. The work begins with the definition of a safety strategy for the company through the performance of hazard, risk, and system design analyses. The effort then culminates in a published safety case. The best candidates will have strong familiarity with industry safety standards, but recognize that we must innovate, and adapt them to fit our unique application and constraints Our industry is moving extremely fast, so the best candidates are those that can succeed at influencing the team to maintain the highest safety bar while rapidly iterating on the product.
This role requires:
- Working closely with leads in each subsystem (Platform Software, Autonomy, Electronics, Mechatronics) to design and build our safety strategy. This includes applying well-understood techniques (e.g. HARA, FTA, DFMEA, FMEDA, FIT) and innovative techniques that are commensurate with our unique application
- Deriving detailed safety goals, requirements, and authoring safety cases
- Mentoring the team on how safety engineering has been historically performed in traditional industries
- Influencing the team to take a safety-first approach
Skills and experience we are looking for:
- Significant industry experience (>5 years) with shipping safety-critical systems
- Deep knowledge of ISO 26262 or equivalents (IEC 61508, DO-178C, DO-254)
- Strong background in electronics systems
- Significant knowledge of traditional systems engineering processes
- Experience with the end-to-end product development cycle, from concept, to requirements, design, implementation, verification, validation and delivery
- Familiarity with requirements traceability tools (eg JAMA)
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
