SUMMARY

This position supports of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Specifically, support will be provided to one or more of the following programs: Suicide Prevention, Adverse Childhood Experiences or other existing or emerging programs in the Division of Injury Prevention. This work will involve extensive writing, developing strategic communications plans, working with a highly scientific/academic multi-disciplinary team, synthesizing scientific information for professional and lay audiences and developing communication materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Manage Division social media via Hootsuite and provide technical assistance to other team members
    • Creating content for Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
    • Analyzing social media metrics to share data and promote best practices within the team.
  • Maintain the Project Management System; provide monthly progress reports on status of milestones and deliverables
  • Effectively use project management best practices, monitoring systems, and software to analyze and interpret data, generate reports, identify potential issues, and manage multiple simultaneous projects
  • Communication generalist; experience with:
    • Working with subject matter experts to develop communication material such as website content, social media, brochures, fact sheets, etc.
    • Managing and/or delivering public health messages to intended audiences
    • Providing guidance on planning, conducting and evaluating health communication and marketing projects and activities to internal and external partners
  • Drowning and Falls communication support
    • Manage web content and create social media for drowning and falls
      • Both websites have had major overhauls this year and are in maintenance for the time being except for additional data or product releases that are planned for the coming year
    • Support for scientific releases: developing communication plans and social media (approximately 5 per year)
    • Communication plans for observances: approximately 4-5/year – these usually coincide with the scientific releases
    • Assisting with answering CDC INFO requests on drowning and falls – very low volume
    • Managing print requests for drowning and falls (usually happens once a year in the winter)
    • Small scope project management on other communication projects
    • Continue as MS Teams Champion (as time permits)
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MANAGEMENT/SUPERISORY AUTHORITY

No management or supervisory authority.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree is preferred in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, English, or related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience developing communication and marketing strategies.
  • Previous experience with CDC NCIPC programs, policies and procedures highly desired .
  • Experience managing content on various Social Media platforms

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Capability to manage multiple projects
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Ability to successfully pass a federal background check and a drug screen
  • Cherokee Federal employees are included as covered employees in U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, which mandates Covid vaccines for federal contractors. Executive Order 14042 is currently blocked from enforcement pending court proceedings. Therefore, Cherokee Federal is halting the application of the mandate; however, if the injunction is lifted, Cherokee Federal will restore administration of the vaccine requirement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is conducted in a climate-controlled office environment.

  • The environment may require prolonged sitting, prolonged standing, and light lifting up to 20 lbs.
