POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Youth and Healthy Living Director and in accordance with the policies of the Door County
YMCA, the Healthy Living Coordinator will develop and deliver wellness programs and services that help participants
achieve healthier body, mind, and/or spirit. Key elements of this position include developing and delivering wellness
classes and personal training sessions, maintaining the Lifestyle Center and orientations to it, assisting in the
cleanliness of facilities, and supporting healthy living programming within the YMCA. The Healthy Living Coordinator
will help support the Youth & Healthy Living Director in all areas of wellness and be able to assist or step in for the
Director when/if necessary. This position will also support the overall operations of the branch, as needed and
directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Create a welcoming environment where members feel safe and supported, relationships are developed, and
staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Be a positive sales person for the YMCA; communicate member benefits
and program services to prospective participants. Share the Y story with everyone who enters our doors.

2. Be knowledgeable about all YMCA programs, policies and procedures to enforce and/or promote to members
and guests. Dispense accurate and timely information regarding the YMCA.

3. Research, develop, implement, evaluate, and manage healthy living programs which incorporate community
needs/wants. Develop and direct wellness programming consistent in quality and delivery.

4. Implement and enforce cleaning protocol in the workout centers and facilities in general to support member
and staff safety.

5. Instruct participants safely and effectively on strength and aerobic equipment in the Lifestyle Center and Free
Weight Room.

6. Manage the Jump Start process, ensuring that new members are acclimated to their membership and have
made connections to feel supported in this process.

7. Promote and implement Personal Training sessions that support a diverse population, developing unique and
individualized programs that ensure client safety, satisfaction, and enhancement of personal fitness goals.

8. Implement quarterly incentive programs in the fitness centers to motivate participants to new goals and
increase participation in both healthy living rooms.

9. Establish and enforce YMCA Healthy Living Department Best Practices across the organization.

10. Coordinate among Building Services Department and Lifestyle Center staff to present well-maintained centers
that are inviting and welcoming to all. A well-delivered preventative maintenance and cleaning schedule must
be coordinated to achieve member satisfaction.

11. Help to recruit, train and develop healthy living program instructors, utilizing and role modeling Listen First
techniques to create a supportive and caring environment; support wellness programming to ensure delivery of
quality programs that are carried out in a consistent and caring manner. Assist Director in staff evaluations.

12. Ensure that healthy living staff interact and assist participants with their programs by actively correcting form,
speed of movement, and positioning. Circulate and greet participants so everyone feels welcome.

13. Support collaborative relationships with community organizations; promote the YMCA as a community partner.
14. Assure own professional growth through reading, study, and conference attendance.
15. Exemplify, promote and incorporate Y mission and values in all aspects of job performance and relationships.
16. Develop and strengthen relationships with public health care providers to build program awareness and

increase program referrals.
17. Respond to all inquiries in regard to our programs in a timely and informative manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least 18 years of age. Some college credit in area of Exercise Physiology or related field preferred.
2. Complete New Employee Orientation within 30 days of your hire date.
3. Obtain a current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid Certificate.

a. This certificate is valid for two years and it is your responsibility to keep it up to date.
4. Complete Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of your hire date.

a. This training is required annually throughout your employment.
5. Complete the following: Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member

Health and Wellness, Foundations of Group Exercise at the Y (offered by ACE) and Foundations, Wellness
Center at the Y, Group Exercise at the Y, Foundations of Strength and Conditioning at the Y, Silver Sneakers,
and any other certifications deemed necessary.

6. Continuing education credits will be necessary on a continual basis to keep certifications current.
7. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization and the community.
8. Demonstrate strong skills in working with and motivating people in a positive manner.
9. Extensive training in discipline preferred. Staff shall have an understanding of physical education principles, as

well as the ability to work with “beginning/unconditioned” participants of all ages and abilities.
