Heavy Equipment Operator ~ Full-Time ~ Consistent Hours:
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs routine maintenance and repair to Facility Services equipment and vehicles. This staff member will also provide exterior maintenance to resident residences and other buildings throughout Holland Home when necessary. Responsible for management and maintenance of all Facility Services equipment. Maintains required safety equipment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains and repairs Facility Services equipment and vehicles.
- Assumes responsibility for the exterior maintenance of all landscapes throughout the Holland Home Campuses including lawn mowing, weeding, snow plowing, salting, shoveling, set-ups etc. Performs daily rounds, performs exterior maintenance on a written work request system, completes preventive maintenance requests and identifies and repairs deficiencies.
- Operates heavy equipment and assists construction activity.
- Assists with outdoor set-ups as needed.
- Provides a safe environment for resident and staff assuring entryways and walkways are free of debris, snow, ice, etc.
- Assumes responsibility for putting away stock deliveries.
- Provides guidance to assigned staff. Duties include assigning and reviewing work, training and assisting when necessary, etc.
- Uses proper chemicals and correct mixtures.
- Makes effective use of department and Holland Homes resources.
- Observes all safety practices and standards including wearing required safety equipment.
- Responds to fire, weather and disasters as needed or directed.
- Maintains work areas and ensures that tools and equipment are operational, clean and orderly.
- Attends staff meetings and inservices as required.
- Performs job duties in accordance with the mission and values of Holland Home.
- Understands resident rights and incorporates them into daily practices.
- Supports and models by conduct the Holland Home Code of Conduct to residents, employees and public.
- Meets Holland Home’s standards for confidentiality.
- Utilizes the Positive Approach to Care™ methodology in accordance with the mission and values of Holland Home.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- The job requires knowledge normally acquired through a general high school diploma or equivalent.
- One to two years of exterior maintenance experience is required.
- Proof of a valid Michigan driver’s license and vehicle liability insurance is required. The incumbent is also required to have a reliable means of transportation.
SPECIAL SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to read, speak, write and understand the English language.
- Analytical ability to identify and resolve mechanical and non-mechanical equipment problems.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and resident in the exchange of information.
- Skills necessary to provide guidance, training and prioritize and review the work of assigned staff.
- Ability to meet Holland Home’s standards for attendance.
- Ability to meet the general health requirements as set forth by the policies of Holland Home, which includes a physical examination, TB testing and seasonal flu shot.
- Maintains CDL License.
MENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Pressures related to performing exterior maintenance in a timely manner.
- Ability to lift and carry packages/boxes/supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to reach, stoop, bend, kneel and/or crouch while performing exterior maintenance duties and operate tools and equipment necessary to perform required maintenance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work involves exposure to sun, rain, snow, dust, dirt, noise, tight spaces, etc. when performing maintenance and repairs.
- Work involves some exposure to resident care areas with minimal exposure to communicable diseases when using standard precaution methods.
- Evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required.
- Schedule for summer hours M-F 7am to 3:30pm, winter hours vary depending on the weather.
