Within the larger scope of formal and informal learning of the Programs & Services Department’s Children, Youth & Family Services division, the High School and College Readiness Coordinator will ensure the quality and delivery of programs and services across the system for teens (and their caregivers) preparing for high school and college. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing a culturally responsive, impactful and sustainable college access model created by a consultant in collaboration with Queens Public Library (QPL) in 2022 that addresses the diverse needs of Queen’s residents. The Coordinator will be responsible for the supervision and training of youth serving counselors and will work with QPL’s Teen Centers and community libraries to ensure that each region in Queens has a high-quality accessible menu of high school and college readiness services. Additionally, the Coordinator will lead the research and development of a high school readiness plan for middle school students and their adult supporters. The Coordinator assists with the timely collection and accurate reporting of all program related data, activities, schedules, branch visits and reports to funders.

Programs, Services and Trainings

  • Develops and/or implements program goals, content, project-based curriculum, and evaluation plans leading to the identified outcomes for the high school and college access models.
  • Develops and sustains internal and external relationships with the NYC Department of Education, local and regional colleges and universities, and organizations that offer access and success resources for teens preparing for high school and college.
  • Identifies and recruits new presenters for virtual and in-person programs that provide academic enrichment, literacy, career and college planning, job readiness, technology training, health and well-being, and social skills.
  • Contracts with presenters to provide workshops and panel discussions on college access topics such as financial aid, scholarship applications, as well as applications to SUNY, CUNY and other public and private institutions.
  • Co-creates outcomes and assessment tools to measure gains, continued educational attainment and enhanced awareness of opportunities.
  • Creates a sustainable continuum of services for post-secondary audiences.
  • Conducts ongoing content and skill-based training for library staff in collaboration with the Coordinator of Teen Services.
  • Works with Coordinator of Teen Services and other internal departments to promote and support a consistent presence on social media and other online platforms attractive to youth.
  • Collects and organizes relevant program data (programming evaluations, surveys, etc.)
  • Collaborates with librarians and other youth serving staff to develop activities that promote the exploration of college as a postsecondary choice.
  • Works with the youth serving counselors to ensure that each student creates a clear attainable postgraduate plan for high school and/or college.
  • Works with the youth serving counselors who will maintain a calendar of events, test dates, high school and college fairs, etc. to keep students and families informed
  • Develops partnerships with college admissions officers and organizes panel discussions and other opportunities for student interaction
  • Trains youth serving counselors on the implementation and facilitation of college access content.

Outreach

  • Collaborates with internal partners, such as Marketing and Outreach and Community Learning, to promote Queens Public Library’s high school and college readiness programs and resources in the community.
  • Establishes relationships with schools to collaborate on workshops and other high school and college- related activities and programs.
  • Represents QPL at high school and community-based college access program meetings.

Administrative Tasks

  • Manages budgets and collaborates with staff across the organization to prepare funding reports
  • Recruits a cohort of youth serving counselors; supervises, trains, schedules and evaluates the youth serving counselors to cover each identified region in Queens.
  • Creates program descriptions, attendance tracking and marketing plans.
  • Creates and follows up on budgets working with Finance and Procurement, including but not limited to, purchase orders, requisitions, and good receipts
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

**Must be willing and able to travel throughout Queens weekly. The schedule for this position will include weekends and evenings. **

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Education or related field required.
  • A passion for working with youth.
  • Knowledge of career, high school and college access programs and opportunities.
  • Four to six years of combined experience in implementing teen programming specific to high school and/or college access such as advising, teaching, tutoring and/or mentoring.
  • An understanding of youth development philosophy is required.
  • Familiarity with the unique, diverse needs of Queens’ residents is required.
  • Experience in MS Office Suite software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and web-based applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
