Do you enjoy helping students ace their history subjects and exams? Avalon Admission of Newton, MA is seeking a few excellent tutors to join our team. Tutoring experience is required. Master's degree preferred. The professional and personal qualities of our tutors are our top priority. You must have experience, a great personality, a high degree of subject specific expertise, familiarity with Zoom (or similar), and strong references. Expect to start with only a few hours but then to grow as our customers and staff become more familiar with your style and ability.
We have a tutoring philosophy and mentality that differs from most. We believe that tutoring ability is something that is innate to your personality, and is not necessarily based on the name of the college from which you graduated. If you happened to graduate from an elite university, that is a plus but not a requirement. What is more important is that you understand the nature of the relationship you have with students, as well as the essential components of a successful tutoring session. You must be able to inspire trust and to establish expertise. You must be a great listener, observer, and communicator. You must be professional in your approach. You must make every session enjoyable and rewarding. You must set attainable goals and interim benchmarks and must not give advice beyond the scope of the subject you are teaching. You must be responsible, sensitive, and inquisitive. You must have the ability to get the most out of your students within the period of time you are allotted. Above all, you must care about the quality of tutoring you provide, and about the outcomes of students who have placed their trust in us and in you.
