UWMC Montlake's Operating Room has an outstanding opportunity for a Full-time, Day Shift, HOSPITAL CUSTODIAN. The Operating Room Custodian will perform environmental services tasks to maintain the Operating Room environment in a safe, clean and orderly manner, adhering to infection control policies to prevent cross contamination.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Cleaning Before Procedures Visually inspects room for any blood or debris before any supplies or case carts are brought in.
  • Damp-dusts with a clean, lint-free cloth with an approved EPA hospital disinfectant all horizontal surfaces within the OR (i.e. furniture, surgical lights, and equipment) before the first case of the day.
  • Damp dusts equipment from areas outside the OR before brought into the operating room.
  • Cleaning Between and After Procedures Using Standard Precautions cleans all horizontal surfaces and surfaces that have come in contact with a patient or body fluids with an EPA hospital disinfectant at the end of the procedure.
  • Cleans spills of contaminated materials (i.e. blood, tissue or body fluids) using an EPA hospital approved disinfectant. Spills are contained and cleaned by persons wearing PPE and using absorbent materials such as towels, disinfectant wipes and 1 time use mop heads.
  • Cleans operating room equipment and furniture that are visibly soiled with an EPA approved hospital-grade germicidal disinfectant at the end of each procedure.
  • Walls, doors, surgical lights and ceilings are spot cleaned if soiled with blood, tissue and or body fluids.
  • A visibly soiled operating room floor requires at least a 3-4 foot perimeter cleaning at the end of the procedure.
  • Moves equipment and the surgical bed in each room to check for any items or spills when cleaning between procedures.
  • Removes soiled linen and garbage from the room.
  • Cleans the Robotic equipment using a soft, lint-free cloth using Cavicide. The robotic arms should be wiped working from top to bottom.
  • Terminal Cleaning – During the Regular work week, each Operating Room is terminally cleaned once during each 24 hour period. (A terminal clean includes all of the items under “Cleaning between and After Procedures” plus additional tasks)
  • Cleans, using mechanical friction and an EPA-approved hospital grade germicidal disinfectant, all equipment and surfaces in the operating room.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and restocks supplies in restrooms Follows written and /or verbal instructions for cleaning rooms where patients are on Isolation Precautions.
  • Strips, cleans, buffs, and applies finish to floors. Uses high speed floor buffers, polishers, and automated floor scrubbers.
  • Follows written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, personal protective apparel, supplies, and equipment.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures and medical center emergency and disaster procedures.

    Language Skills:
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

  • Other Skills:
  • Ability to work under stress in a busy and potentially hazardous environment.
  • Ability to independently use electronic devices required to perform work to include, but not limited to, telephones, pagers, computers, and time clock.

  • REQUIREMENTS:
    Physical ability to do required work.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
