Hotel Engineer Job at SMC - Southern Management Companies
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that property, structures and equipment are in compliance with local codes and regulations
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of adequate supplies and replacement parts and equipment by ensuring areas are neat and clean reporting shortages to supervisor
- Make repairs to landscaping, grading and drainage
- Install, repair and maintain sump pumps and utility/circulating pumps
- Troubleshoot, repair, replace or make adjustments to all types of appliances
oTeam member must have completed and passed Basic Electric to qualify for onsite training above the parameter set and determined
oBranch circuits to de-energize, test and make safe to replace, switch and load devices, fuses and appliances- up to 40 amps
Advanced Electric:
o277 volts-200 amps not connected to a main bus; simulated training at MTA
oTeam member must have completed and passed Basic Electric & Advanced Electric to qualify for onsite training above the parameter set and determined
oClassroom instruction of theory of electricity from basic circuitry and load calculations and wire sizes, to include up to 3 Phase
oMust include proper tools
oVerification of responsibility by "On the Job Checklist"
Plumbing:
oUnclog plumbing drains of all types
oRepair or replace fixtures
oRepair or replace trim fixtures
oRepair or replace drain, waste and vent piping
oRepair or replace domestic water pipes up to 3" including valves
Carpentry/Doors/Floors
oCaulk doors, windows and floors
oRepair or replace interior and exterior doors, and hardware
oInstall stair treads
oInstall thresholds
oRepair or replace trim and vinyl cove base
oRepair or replace wood framing members
Drywall/Paint
oTouch up paint
oRepair or replace drywall
- Acknowledge all guests and respond promptly to their needs, however busy and whatever time of day. Ensure unresolved incidents are reported to Manager/Supervisor
- Familiarity with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately
- Contribute to the team's success by accomplishing tasks and assisting with projects as needed
- Maintain knowledge and compliance with departmental policies, service procedures, and standards
- Availability during peak operating times, ie: Weekends, Holidays and Special Events
- Work as a team member to ensure our guests have the best possible experience
- Understand company's emergency procedures and be able to apply them when necessary
- Report any incidents, property damage or injuries immediately to Manager/Supervisor
- Attend department meetings and training sessions as necessary
- Other duties as assigned by Manager and/or Supervisor

Skills Required
- Knowledge of mechanical, math and measurements skills
- Knowledge of current occupational hazards, and an understanding of the necessary safety precautions, building codes and regulations applicable to the maintenance profession
- Knowledge, understanding and demonstration of preventative maintenance
- Knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform building maintenance tasks
- Ownership of tools necessary to perform all fan coil, heating and ventilation work depending upon the specific building
- Ability to analyze a maintenance problem effectively
- Basic knowledge of the operation of elevators
- Thorough knowledge of individual heating and ventilation systems
- Thorough knowledge of boilers and chillers
- Thorough working knowledge of electrical wiring
- Ability to lift 80 pounds to the shoulder and carry
- Ability to perform all task associated
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

2-4 years demonstrated M III experience, preferably in a hospitality or food and beverage environment
- Successfully completed all basic maintenance classes, M II maintenance classes, and on-the-job training
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
