Family Violence Law Center (FVLC) helps diverse communities in Alameda County heal from domestic violence and sexual assault, advocating for justice and healthy relationships. We provide survivor-centered legal and crisis intervention services, offer prevention education for youth and other community members, and engage in policy work to create systemic change.

OVERVIEW:

FVLC receives funding from the California Office of Emergency Services to implement a Domestic Violence Housing First Project. FVLC is hiring a Housing Case Manager to help domestic violence survivors obtain or maintain housing and provide them the support they need to rebuild their lives. The project is survivor-driven, trauma-informed, and mobile and includes providing direct, flexible financial assistance to clients. Many survivors live at the intersection of multiple forms of oppression and therefore our advocacy considers how issues like racism and poverty influence survivors’ likelihood of success.

The Housing Case Manager provides mobile case management and other supportive services designed to assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency and reaching their housing goals. The Housing Case Manager coordinates client assistance funds for needs like rental deposits, moving costs, utility bills, and other expenses that serve as barriers to stable housing. They work in partnership with our Housing Staff Attorneys and with our Housing and Gender Justice Staff who focuses on policy level advocacy. The Case Manager is supervised by the Family Violence Intervention Unit Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Empowerment-Based Case Management

You will maintain a caseload of 10-15 survivors, who meet criteria for longer case management services. Case Management includes, but is not limited to:

1) Assessing and intaking potential case management clients

2) Meeting regularly with clients to empower them towards setting and achieving their housing goals

3) Being flexible, creative, and empowerment based in providing client-centered services through mobile support.

4) Being highly organized in managing client assistance funds for needs like rental deposits, moving costs, utility bills, and other expenses that serve as barriers to stable housing.

5) Facilitating relationships with housing managers, landlords and other community agencies to support clients’ housing stability.

6) Conducting outreach with other community agencies to train others about our program and build partnerships

7) Participating in regular case review team meetings and contributing to collective decisions about enrollment, case plans, and termination of the case management relationship.

8) Working in partnership with the Housing Staff Attorneys and with the Housing and Gender Justice Staff to increase clients’ access to stable housing.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Answer crisis line calls and assist walk-in clients who drop into the office, as needed
  • Attend and participate in regular case conferences with supervisor and/or FVIU team.
  • Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled team meetings.
  • Maintain data on client contacts, case information, program assessment and officer training needs.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the FVIU team and FVLC, through participating in data collection aimed at better understanding client needs and improving the program in response to those needs.

This position is not limited to the duties described above. Duties and responsibilities may be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of FVLC.

Minimum Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or a related field OR at least two years of related experience providing case management or client advocacy services.
  • At least two years of previous experience with case management, crisis intervention, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault-related services.
  • Basic understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.
  • Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Valid California driver’s license and insured vehicle.
  • Criminal background check (provided upon hire).
  • CA 40 Hour Domestic Violence Counselor Certification (can be provided upon hire).

Preferred Qualities

  • Previous training and/or experience with Motivational Interviewing, the Recovery Model, Strengths-Based Case Management, and/or cultural competency skills
  • Demonstrated presentation skills and comfort speaking in front of groups.
  • Familiarity with social service agencies in Alameda County.
  • Interest in women’s and domestic violence issues.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Cantonese and/or Mandarin.

Classification: Non-exempt, full-time. Position is 37.5 hours per week.

Compensation: Salary starting range of $31.80- $32.31 per hour or above depending on education and experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, flexible spending account, generous vacation plan.

Work Environment: The work environment includes settings of the client’s home, police departments, community places, and office environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
