The HSE Specialist is part of the Construction team and provides leadership and strategic direction around ensuring the safety of our employees and contractors while helping to minimize our environmental footprint.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Construction Operations team to effectively coordinate safe practices and procedures on the construction of developing wind projects.
  • Supervise the relationship regarding Health and Safety with project stakeholders
  • Perform risk management to minimize employee and project risk
  • Represent HSE at customer meetings as required
  • Oversees the care and case management of any person with a workplace injury in conjunction with construction management
  • Responsible for coordination and management of environmental risks and cleanup of any release
  • Build organization capability by providing HSE mentoring and development of HSE Professional I team members
  • Support the investigation process of incidents (including near misses, releases, and losses) and accidents to determine root causes and prepares/directs corrective and preventive action plans. Identify and determine correction action for systemic HSE issues within the region of responsibility
  • Maintain current knowledge of HSE industry best practices and technological developments and equipment to remain up to date on related systems, devices and techniques designed to eliminate or minimize associated risks. Keeps current on regulatory requirements pertaining to HSE for assigned Countries, Provinces, Territories and States
  • Direct HSE efforts and serve as ambassador for an injury and incident free safety culture
  • Ability to travel extensively to meet business goals
  • Perform in field interactions with trade workers and wind turbine technicians, sometimes at height

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Health and Safety or related equivalent with work experience
  • Certification (CSP/ASP/CRSP/GSP/SMS) is added value
  • Direct experience within the Wind industry is highly desirable
  • Capable of guiding cultural change and behavior-based safety programs, as well as HSE programs and policies across multiple countries, geographies and cultures
  • Experience in applying international HSE standards (ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001) across business units and geographies
  • Experience with TapRoot or other root cause analysis process
  • Experience with cranes, lifting and rigging, civil works, safety management systems, control of hazardous energy, confined space requirements, work at heights and soft tissue injury prevention desired

  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs and ladders 60-125 meters in height, in order to access work area.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs. in weight.
  • Ability to occasionally walk, stand, look up/down, balance, stoop, twist, kneel, and bend.
  • Ability to occasionally grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools and turbine parts.
  • Comfort occasionally working in confined spaces and at heights over 100 meters.
  • Ability to favorably participate in all training courses, including controlled decent.
  • Ability to hear and see, including the ability to perceive depth and distinguish colors, sufficient to perform job functions and use close range radios.
  • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
  • Comfort working remotely in a turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction.

It is an essential function of this position that you climb and work in the turbines. Therefore, to perform your position safely, your total weight, while wearing all required PPE and gear, should be at or less than the 300.0 lbs. weight limit.
