Salaried, Exempt

Salary Range: DOE ($70-75k annually) with benefit package that includes

Brief Description:

  • The HR Generalist is experienced in the field of HR and is comfortable being the sole human resources practitioner for a staff of 35-55 employees.
  • Manages several functions in the human resources department such as employment, compensation, benefits, training, and employee relations.
  • The HR Generalist has a deep understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • The HR Generalist is the first point of contact with potential and current employees and is responsible for ensuring interactions are helpful, positive and authentic.
  • The HR Generalist is comfortable working odd hours when needed, and in shelter as well as a traditional office setting.
  • The HR Manager is a leader in accountability and has the ability to "manage up" when needed.

Relationships

  • Reports to the Executive Director
  • Direct reports - None.
  • Co-chairs the Equity Committee (with appointed Board member) that includes staff, managers, executive directors, and board members.
  • Interacts with potential employees, shelter staff, and office colleagues in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Works well with a wide diversity of people (educational, racial, physical, technological, etc.), honestly, ethically, with integrity and a sense of compassion.
  • Maintains relationships with benefit brokers, HR compliance support resources, and any/all local government and employment agencies.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Five years or more experience in HR, Non-profit Administration or a related field.
    • Life experience, prior employment, education, and life-long learning will be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management or related experience is an asset.
  • SHRM certification, highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of hiring and employee life cycle processes.
  • Strong understanding of HR best practices and current regulations.
  • Experience (lived or professional) in areas of homelessness.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care is preferred.
  • Experience with Paylocity and Applicant Pro highly preferred.


Principal Responsibilities

General Duties:

  • Implement complex HR and operational systems and processes.
  • Responsible for daily organizing and filing of all The Sophia Way administrative records, including overseeing payroll records, human resources files, and more.
  • Responsible for scheduling staff meetings, updating event information, sending reminders and agendas.
  • Authors and updates employee manuals that reflect The Sophia Way's mission, vision, and values as well as is up to date with all changes in compliance and law.
  • Advises Executive Director and leadership on employment laws, policies and best practices.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of new policies and practices.
  • Assists employees with day-to-day administrative tasks as needed. (e.g., issuing parking passes, expense reports, etc.)
  • Prepare and maintain benefits administration and compliance.
  • Leads annual benefits renewal.
  • Assist employees with insurance plan and IRA questions, as needed.
  • Injury reporting and administration.
  • Leave administration and support; providing leave guidance to employees and management of leave documents, timelines, payroll, etc.
  • Proactively educates employees on benefits and other programs available to them.
  • Manages employee engagement programs and incentives.
  • Manage all external employment inquiries.

Recruitment and employee life cycle:

  • Coordinates with Executive team and managers to manage all open employment opportunities from job descriptions to onboarding.
  • Works with the Executive Director to ensure that TSW is maintaining its commitment to wage equity with expertise and research.
  • Manages and ensures that every employee has knowledge of and access to technology used by TSW, primarily Paylocity (payroll and HR management system), Slack, email, and any equipment supplied.
  • Confirm acceptance and run pre-employment screenings.
  • Work with IT and/or Facilities Coordinator to secure equipment and account access.
  • Hold one-on-one meetings to review paperwork and benefits information with new employees immediately upon hire.
  • Send COBRA General Notice to employees newly enrolled in benefits program.
  • Work with Benefits and IRA third party administrators as necessary for onboarding and offboarding employees.
  • Work with IT and Supervisors to cancel email accounts/computer access/collect company materials upon employee departure.
