DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Human Resource Specialist will work closely with the senior leadership team to coordinate and manage all aspects of HR recruitment, onboarding, recordkeeping, and employee support. Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team on personnel-related matters.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following essential functions, performed on a frequent and recurring basis, include but are not limited to:

  • Create a compensation strategy for all employees based on market research and pay surveys, keeping the strategy up to date. Implement training and development plans. Forecast staffing needs in coordination with the senior leadership team.
  • Prepare and/or update employment records related to new hire documentation, changes in job position or employment status, payroll adjustments, and terminations.
  • Administer the J's employee benefit and compensation programs with staff.
  • Research, identify and implement creative strategies for recruitment and retention, including strategies to ensure recruitment of diverse applicant pools and support the J’s emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Create and administer the J's workers' compensation plan and manage it to deliver fair insurance coverage for employees who suffer injuries at work.
  • Develop training materials and performance management programs to help ensure employees understand their job responsibilities.
  • Process employee questions and respond in a timely manner.
  • Stay up-to-date and in compliance with changes in labor and employment legislation.
  • Facilitate and manage the J’s hiring process from job identification and posting through onboarding.
  • Work with senior leadership and appropriate department heads to ensure standards are met for licensing requirements (e.g., Chief Operating Officer and ECC leadership for ECC licensing, Sports & Wellness Director for Aquatics).
  • Review and maintain job descriptions.
  • Review employee handbook and personnel-related policies annually for revision and improvement.
  • Plan, prepare, and coordinate quarterly and annual performance review processes.
  • Communicate with employees about benefit eligibility periods, anniversaries of employment, and benefit renewal periods.
  • Maintain organization charts.
  • Manage employee conflict resolution and HR-related grievances.
  • Investigate employee issues and conflicts and bring them to resolution.
  • Design, implement, and oversee the internship program.
  • Design and deploy a program to ensure licensing and regulatory compliance with volunteers involved with programmatic activities.
  • Participate with other administrative and professional staff in the overall operation of the J.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five or more years of experience in human resources and personnel management, including full cycle recruiting.
  • Bachelor’s in human resources, labor relations, organizational development, business, or related area (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience with the human resources information system (HRIS) and working knowledge of applicant tracking, benefit, and payroll systems.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices, including compensation, performance management, safety, hiring, and employee relations; able to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment regulations. Solid understanding of labor and employment legislation and benefits administration in a non-unionized workforce.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with analyzing data to guide strategic employment planning.

  • Experience managing processes, analyzing information, and problem-solving. Must be able to take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and ability to effectively use business productivity software, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to delegate, motivate and inspire team members.
  • Honesty and integrity.
  • Must be able to effectively respond to requests from others in a timely manner.
