IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) has a career opportunity for a Projects Accounting Manager. Our corporate office is located in Aliso Viejo, CA, however this position can work a hybrid schedule. Salary range $110K to $130K.

IPSC provides operations, maintenance, management, and power support services to the US Power Generation Industry across the United States. Job Summary

Plans and directs accounting and finance activities within the department by performing the job functions personally or through subordinate staff. Primarily responsible for all aspects of financial reporting including financial statement generation and internal controls. Responsibilities will include providing monthly reviews, identification of areas for cost reductions and operational improvements, annual budget process, periodic forecasting, periodic analysis of operational performance and performing tax reporting requirements. Position is also responsible for Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable. Position will support Plant personnel with the annual budget preparation. Provides clear communications across organizational boundaries and fosters/develops a high preforming team. Effectively identifies and resolves issues using a team-oriented approach. Must be willing to embrace continual learning in one’s technical skills as well as interpersonal and leadership. This position will be responsible for developing the bench strength and succession candidates within the organization Accounting and Finance Department.


Job Functions

  • Manage all general ledger transactions and prepare full monthly financial statements and monthly analysis of cost of services and operational expenses against prior year and budget, providing explanations and business solutions to help mitigate risks.
  • Review, approve and post all monthly journal entries and adjustments.
  • Record cash and card transactions (including keeping receipts), communicates with financial institutions and arrange bank deposits.
  • Analyze financial performance against key business metrics and document pertinent financial highlights that will enable management to determine progress against budgets.
  • Identify, investigate, and analyze potential operational improvement. Make proposal for operational changes (policy, procedures, processes, etc.) as appropriate.
  • Oversee accounts payable and approve/control all cash transactions.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all relevant client accounts.
  • Report on variances from the established budgets, and the reasons for those variances.
  • Review company process bottlenecks and recommend changes to improve the overall level of company throughput.
  • Interpret the company's financial results to management and recommend improvement activities.
  • Provide support for planning and scheduling for baseline, resources, and progress tracking needs.
  • Implement and execute proper controls to proactively support, monitor, and communicate budget, actual status for projects.
  • Develop and issue timely cost reports, forecasts, ad hoc reports and tax returns.
  • Prepare and issue cost analysis and variance reporting narratives including recommendations for corrective actions that are used by the Operations team to manage the work.
  • Support Operations in contract management/compliance, invoice management, document control, client meetings/coordination, and interaction with Accounts Receivable where necessary.
  • Take the lead in the development and maintenance of periodic status reports to keep management and/or client informed on the project progress.
  • Coordinate submission of any relevant client invoices, including performance of 100% quality control check of all before submission to ensure they are error free.
  • Monitor all projects and take appropriate action to notify Operations of P&L impacts of options.
  • Maintain project information including initial set up, budgets, modifications, change orders, and project close out.
  • Responsible for training, developing and mentoring subordinate accounting staff through effective delegation of responsibilities and work assignments to produce desired results.
  • Demonstration of strong leadership abilities to motivate accounting professionals to reach all company objectives.
  • Effectively communicates to subordinates, peers, and leadership in a collaborative, constructive, and team-oriented manner.

Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance/ Accounting or equivalent years of related work experience.
  • At least 5-6 years of relevant experience in a similar accounting/ finance capacity required.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices to perform required accounting activities and financial analysis.
  • Excellent knowledge of auditing practices and methods.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • CPA or other professional certifications and utility specific training desired.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing and developing Finance/Accounting staff.

  • Accounting system knowledge, preferably with Great Plains and/or NetSuite.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and in a team environment.
  • Results oriented with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • This job operates in a clerical, office setting.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Ability to operate quickly with a high degree of accuracy.
  • May be subject to extended hours and weekends as the business needs dictate.
  • This job requires limited travel.
