About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Recruitment Services the Immigration Advisor is responsible for supporting the adjudication of immigration files for newcomers who are recruited as potential employees and newcomers that are internationally recruited for hard-to-fill positions within all departments of Nova Scotia Health. This position is responsible for supporting our immigration strategy and building relationships throughout the organization and communities to ensure newly hired foreign nationals are well-positioned to be successful in their roles and can easily transition into life in their new communities.


The responsibilities with respect to the Immigration Advisor are:


  • Represents the organization at international job fairs and events, actively creates a presence on social media, and provide recruitment resources to potential candidates.
  • Works collaboratively on recruitment marketing content based on government regulations and laws.
  • Supports the strategy for building interest in Nova Scotia Health amongst new Canadians and those interested in immigrating to Canada and assists in attracting a diverse pool of candidates for open positions;
  • Supports the Immigration Consultant with foreign national applications to the multiple immigration pathways
  • Works closely with diversity business partners to connect qualified candidates to hard-to-fill positions
  • Maintains a strong network, understands the competitive landscape and adapts approaches to differentiate the organization in the marketplace
  • Researches, creates and maintains settlement plans and connects with community partners to ensure support for foreign nationals is readily available
  • Ensures employer compliance is maintained, support training and education to hiring managers
  • Works closely with external settlement providers and organizations who support foreign national programs and initiatives

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:


  • Graduate of a post-secondary degree/program in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Three (3) years of recent Human Resources work experience
  • Experience with the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program and Nova Scotia Nominee Program
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to travel
  • Experience working in a unionized and healthcare environment preferred
  • Effective communication, customer service, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to understand and anticipate the impact of decisions at departmental level
  • Ability to clearly articulate immigration policies and processes
  • Well developed organizational and daily planning skills
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal Labour and Employment Standards and the Canadian Human Rights Act;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and human resource information system (preferably SuccessFactors)
  • Effective research and analytical thinking skills
  • Effective rapport-building skills
  • Effective work practice – accountable, dependable, flexible, persevering, sets goals and meets deadlines, results oriented
  • Demonstrated self-starter, decision maker and problem solver
  • Strong attention to detail

Hours

  • Permanent Full-time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
  • Work location is flexible within the province. Flexibility to work on-site or from home.

Compensation and Incentives

$28.0499 - $35.0622 Hourly


Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
