Immunization Nurse (RN or LPN) Job at Jackson County Health Department

RN Salary = $42,500 - $44,00 annually

LPN Salary = $35,000 - $36,800 annually

Summary: With interdependent direction, performs public health nursing duties in a local health department.

Duties and Responsibilities specific to this position

1. Maintain I-Care immunization databases.

2. Perform duties of the Vaccine For Children (VFC) primary vaccine coordinator: manage vaccine inventory (private and VFC), order vaccine (private and VFC), maintain ICARE system, update the vaccine management plan as necessary, monitor vaccine unit including daily temperatures and data loggers.

Nursing Duties and Responsibilities:

3. Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions when appropriate.

4. Assess health, social and educational needs and formulate plans to meet those needs.

5. Establish and grow working relationships with a variety of community, governmental, subcontract agencies, and professional individuals and groups.

6. Provide information on local health programs and services that are available to improve access to care.

7. Provide educational instruction pertaining to health, social, and educational issues.

8. Research ways to improve healthcare processes and improve patient outcome.

9. Provide immunizations to adults and children. Review history and determine what immunizations are needed. Calculate return dates and give advice regarding possible adverse reactions.

10. Provide TB skin testing as needed.

11. Obtain fingerstick or venous specimens.

12. Process urine specimens.

13. Conduct oral assessment, provide guidance related to oral/dental health and apply fluoride varnish to children under age 3.

14. Assist with STD testing, treatment, and morbidity reporting as needed. And assist with Communicable Disease reporting as needed.

15. Assist with blood lead reporting. Updates PMD’s as necessary.

16. Participate in agency’s emergency response activities for both exercises and actual events

17. Incorporate ethical standards of practice into all interactions, including the use of data and information

18. Adhere to HIPAA privacy regulations and OSHA safety standards pertaining to exposure to toxic substances or other hazards.

19. Interact effectively and professionally with all persons regardless of age, cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial or ethnic background, sexual orientation, lifestyle and physical ability. And the respect cultural, language and religious practices of others.

21. Assist with other nursing division duties as assigned, including on-call coverage.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience - Registered Nurse with current Illinois license with two years’ experience in community health or child health nursing OR a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a recognized or accredited program and one year of experience in community health or child health nursing OR an Illinois Licensed Practical Nurse license with two years’ experience or additional education in administration of medications or vaccinations.

Technical Requirements –

o Requires competency in computer skills. Experience in data entry, word processing, and basic spreadsheet use is preferred.

o Requires travel by automobile. Valid driver’s license, proof of minimum insurance and vehicle required.

Physical Requirements – Must be able to move or carry up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment:

o Frequent interruptions and distraction with multiple concurrent tasks,

o Exposure to blood/body fluids, infectious agents and airborne pathogens,

o Exposure to needles/syringes and waste handling,

o Position may require evening or weekend work for special program events.

o Incident Command IS 100 and IS 700, minimally

o CMS Medicare/Medicaid Provider

o Mandated Reporter

o DHS Civil Rights

o CPR/AED

o Bloodborne Pathogens

o Any other trainings required under employment law
