Job location: Remote – with travel to Des Moines, IA (twice per month minimum) Preference is someone who would like to move to Des Moines, IA / currently lives here, but this is not mandatory.

Travel: Probably traveling 1-2 per quarter to source new capital investments for this arm/attending Accelerators and Incubators to network and evaluate start up pitches.

Education / Certifications: Bachelor’s degree highly preferred / Master’s degree (Business Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information Systems). Combination of education and/or relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

Required Experience: 10+ years professional experience. This person must have a financial analytical background, inquisitive personality to look for potential gaps with external businesses/startups.

Preferred Experience:

Industry experience in the one of the following industries:

  • Life, Health, Annuity experience
  • Technology
  • InsurTech (startups specifically for the insurance industry/ITC)

P&L management / Leadership or a mentorship background

JOB SUMMARY

The Director Innovation is responsible for identify and investing in existing technology organization that can operate within the insurance, financial services, and healthcare marketplace. Responsibilities include participation in due diligence activities, software solutions for pilots and incubations. The Director will preparation and filing of multiple external and internal investment reports, seeking to incorporate innovation into current workflows and customer segments across the organization, and facilitating a culture that supports cross-functional collaboration to identify, develop, and implement innovative ideas for investigation and possible execution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manage the investment portfolio including adding new investments and setting timelines for funding. The role will include enhancing investment frameworks, establishing measures of non-financial critical success factors, conducting business valuations, creating deal strategies, and presenting results to the advisory committee, and executive leadership team.

Lead finance diligence for all capital investments in the fund including deal negotiation, types, and structures.

  • Anticipates future platform needs and identifies possible solutions. Leads technology planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.
  • Benchmarks, analyzes, reports on, and makes recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT platform.
  • Collaborate with business areas, such as marketing, operations, and finance to bring new solutions to the organization for potential pilots.
  • Establish tracking for the financial and operating performance of potential investments.
  • Establish and facilitate ongoing strategic partnerships through investment portfolio and A business partnerships.
  • Participate in seeking/identifying business solutions that align with long-term objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily works in an office environment (or in-home office) performing work that is sedentary which involves remaining stationary and working on a computer for long periods of time
  • Must be able to review, assess, and/or analyze data and figures by viewing a computer screen, including extensive reading.
  • Regularly communicates with others in-person, via video conferencing, electronically (including email), or by phone to exchange accurate information.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
