Position Description: The Instructional Technologist is a subject matter expert (SME) in the selection, application, support, and implementation of various approaches and strategies for incorporating instructional technology for diverse audiences across multiple academic programs. The Instructional Technologist works to support the FAES Academic Programs team, students, faculty, and other clients in all administrative capacities. The position supports faculty in the building and producing of online and technology-enhanced courses, workshops, and learning materials by selecting appropriate media and presentation tools for delivery, by training faculty in the use of learning technologies, and by providing troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical support for users of learning technologies. Work results have a direct and highly visible impact on the quality of instruction, services, and public image of FAES.

This role provides administrative, technical, and production support to faculty and the Academic Programs team. This role supports and designs conceptual frameworks for delivering effective, technology-enhanced learning experiences. The Instructional Technologist focuses on how to best deliver academic content in terms of structure, timing, pedagogical strategies, and the sequence of learning activities to support the use of technology.

Systems Administration Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the administration of the Learning Management System (LMS), to include; production of online courses in the LMS, importing students into the LMS, and creating and maintaining faculty accounts in the LMS
  • Maintain records of current technologies and usage
  • Regularly review technology usage and maintenance of users/storage among technologies (Zoom, Canvas, Modern Campus, etc.)
  • Review data and pull records from all technologies to help inform requirements of user agreement contracts upon renewal
  • Develop and maintain an archival schedule for courses and users in the LMS and other tools and softwares used by Academic Programs
  • Facilitate the integration of APIs such as VoiceThread, Panopto, and Zoom, etc.
  • Edit digital learning materials including audio and video files
  • Provide support and training for FAES staff both within the department and cross-departmentally for FAES learning technologies
  • Research new and emerging instructional technologies for viability, advise leadership on equipment and training needs, and make recommendations to department and organization regarding software/IT purchases
  • Pilot, evaluate, and where appropriate, implement new educational technologies
  • Conduct analyses of processes and systems to make recommendations and implement successful improvements that are in the strategic interest of the department and organization
  • Maintain up-to-date technology skills by attending training on new equipment and learning new/modified procedures and software
  • Serve as department liaison to AP technology vendors and internal IT stakeholders

Faculty Development Responsibilities:

  • Provide informed guidance to faculty on options for presenting instructional materials and engaging students in alignment with FAES Academic Programs faculty development goals and in collaboration with other team members
  • Provide information for and assist faculty, students, and staff with using equipment and software
  • Design and provide training materials, workshops, and one-on-one support in with the use of learning technologies
  • Respond to inquiries from faculty, students, and staff about instructional technologies in a timely manner; trouble-shoot and problem-solve
  • Ensure learning materials and learning environments are designed according to universal design for learning (UDL) principles and are 508 compliant
  • Maintain a website and digital resource repository to support ongoing faculty development needs
  • Provide professional guidance to faculty in designing, producing, and maintaining instructional materials to create engaging learning environments

General Administrative Duties

  • Oversee evaluation process for all Academic Programs initiatives, to include collating, analyzing, and communicating reliable and accurate evaluation data on Academic Programs initiatives to FAES staff, faculty, and other stakeholders
  • Create, implement, and deliver digital certificates and badges
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with course implementation and other processes, to include; assisting Academic Programs team in ensuring courses and workshops are ready for publishing and release to students and creating shells and templates for course and workshop design and development
  • Assist Academic Programs team in maintaining high standards of quality and consistency in a constantly changing environment
  • Participate in department- and organization-wide projects and committees
  • Participate in editing videos from FAES Academic Programs information sessions and other events
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred with 2-4 years relevant experience
  • HTML and CSS coding experience
  • Experienced user of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively multi-task
  • Strong skills in time management, prioritization, planning, and organization
  • Outstanding communications skills with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, students, faculty, and other internal and external collaborators and clients
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Solid proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Prior experience with Canvas, Panopto, VoiceThread, and Zoom, as well as other technologies that support and facilitate learning
  • Knowledge of universal design for learning (UDL) principles and 508 compliance
  • Must be able to pass a NIH background check to be employed at FAES
